robertoart Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 The Sideman Ornette. No trumpet on these ones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtskM6x5CYc&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLB938BEF67BE9000C Quote
Gheorghe Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 It's not for nothing we named our son August Ornette! (who, consequently, shares his first birthday with Mr. Cecil Taylor next week!) :tup Great! One of the leading avantgarde musicians in my hometown Vienna (Fritz Novotny, founder and leader of the "Reform Art Unit" and a "New Thing Artist" since 1959) also named his son "Ornette". Ornette Coleman is one of my favourites. Love everything he did. The before mentioned album "Ornette at 12" is great. I´m glad I have the LP, and the other Impulse "Crisis" also. Quote
B. Goren. Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 Mr. Coleman is 83 years old today. Happy birthday to you and best wishes from Tel-Aviv. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 I love Ornette's trumpet playing personally, but Happy Birthday! Quote
robertoart Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 It's like, crazy man. Insightful as always Quote
paul secor Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 Happy Birthday, Mr. Coleman. Hopes for many more healthy and productive ones. Quote
Milestones Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 Honestly, I'm surprised to find a couple of fans of his trumpet playing. I can deal with it, to be sure, but the signature sound is the alto. The man has created some great music. When I first read about him (and had not yet heard him), I thought he would be rather inaccessible. But that is not that case at all. He is very engaging on just about everything, even on Free Jazz (the record). Quote

7/4 Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 What about his violin? It's like, crazy man. Insightful as always Yeah...I like to dig in and get to, like the essence....man. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 As far as I'm concerned Ornette can do whatever he wants. Quote
colinmce Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 As far as I'm concerned Ornette can do whatever he wants. Yep. FWIW one of the first Ornette albums I got, and the first one I really listened to, was Golden Circle Vol 2, so I became instantly accustomed to it rather than opposed to it in any way. Quote
Blue Train Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 (edited) Best vibes time. As far as I'm concerned Ornette can do whatever he wants. Edited August 27, 2013 by Blue Train Quote
