brownie Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 The remarkable pianist Earl Wild died at his Palm Springs, Calif., home on Saturday. He was 94. The New York Times obituary. Quote
Robert J Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 Sad news, His was the first recording of Rhapsody in Blue I heard on record. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Wild recorded a wonderful set of Rachmaninoff concertos with Horenstein and the Royal Philharmonic. Available on Chandos (cheaper set) and on Chesky with better sound. I've enjoyed these recordings since 1968. My Readers Digest lp set is supreme! Quote
michel devos Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 I'll remember Earl Wild as one of the few pianists capable of playing at least some of the Beethoven symphonies in the Liszt transcriptions. A remarkable achievement. Quote
