medjuck Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 I just got an e-mail from a friend informing me that Kate McGarrigle has died. I'm a big fan of the McGarrigle Sisters and have Kate's composition "Kiss and Say Goodbye" as the ringtone on my phone. By my standards she was quite young-- 63. Quote
AllenLowe Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 great singers and, from what my friend Stacy Phillips (a great dobroist) has told me, very nice people. This is very sad. Quote
Van Basten II Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) I knew she was sick, still a shame, last time i saw her was with her sis last october doing vocals in a Emmylou Harris gig, she looked fine. Rather sad january for the Montreal music community. Thanks Kate for the great musical memories, thanks for giving us two talented kids who will hopefully be with us for many years. paul secor Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 I've enjoyed her and her sister's singing and songwriting for over thirty years. Thank you Ms. McGarrigle for your gift of music. Quote
Stereojack Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 This is very sad news. I caught up with them a little late, maybe 10-15 years ago, but I became a big fan. Quote
Van Basten II Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) Pictures have no relation to the song but this is the song that made them famous here. Edited January 20, 2010 by Van Basten II Quote
randyhersom Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Thoughts with Rufus, Martha, Anna, and Loudon (despite his failings as a family man). A great loss. Quote
seeline Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 And Jane (the sister who mostly did production). Very sad news. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Sad to hear this too. The McGarrigles made quite a stir in the UK c.1975 when they first arrived - sounded like something from another planet. Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 R.I.P. Very sad news indeed. I first heard about her passing via John Kruth on Facebook. Quote
