mjzee Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Just noticed this on Amazon as coming soon. They also list a Ray Charles. Format seems similar to the Sony Original Album Classics series. Wonder if there will be others: Original Album Series - Duke Ellington Quote
crisp Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 This German site has a whole load of them listed for imminent release -- just do a search on "Original Album Series" (it won't let me link to a search string). The other titles are mostly rock and pop. Quote
Niko Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 they are getting more and more, http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/home/search?fastsearch=original%20album%20series&pd_orderby=preisdesc&page=1 http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/home/search?fastsearch=original%20album%20classics&pd_orderby=datedesc some are only three cds though! hadn't been aware of the bireli lagrene and richard galliano box sets; and there's a putte wickmann! [and aztec camera!] Quote
king ubu Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 The Galliano has been around for a while. Those are Dreyfus discs... are they part of Sony/BMG now? Quote
brownie Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Those are Dreyfus discs... are they part of Sony/BMG now? Disques Dreyfus is still an independent label! Quote
Matthew Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 they are getting more and more, http://www.jpc.de/jp...reisdesc&page=1 http://www.jpc.de/jp...rderby=datedesc some are only three cds though! hadn't been aware of the bireli lagrene and richard galliano box sets; and there's a putte wickmann! [and aztec camera!] Some of those look really nice, and at bargain prices. Quote
king ubu Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 So are these licences by someone? Or did all the labels get together and decide to do these 5CD set? Quote
brownie Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 The Galliano set is released by Dreyfus and reissues albums produced by Dreyfus. Quote
Niko Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 weird... the petrucciani, galliano, lagrene and marcus miller sets are labeled as dreyfus but i can't find them on the dreyfus page; the miller contains the albums The Sun don't lie, Free, M^2, Silver Rain und Tales, most of which don't appear to be dreyfus albums (it says JVC Victor on allmusic) Quote
Niko Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) apparently there is a wave of swedish stuff, besides the wickmann there will also be a monica zetterlund 5 cd set some details here: http://www.digjazz.se/Diggat.repris.html#Monicabox Edited January 19, 2010 by Niko Quote
crisp Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Just to clarify: the Original Album Series is a new line from Rhino, while the Original Album Classics line, referred to in the last couple of posts, comes from Sony BMG and has been running for some time. Only two titles from the Original Album Series are on Amazon UK: the Ellington and the Charles mentioned in the first post. Quote
king ubu Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Well, with Lagrene, Miller and Galliano, it seems to not only come from Sony/BMG. Quote
gmonahan Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 The George Benson set looks interesting. I don't have all of those, except for the first. gregmo Quote
king ubu Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Got the Dr. John, Warren Zevon and Otis Redding of these - they're thinner than the Sony ones, with just a filmsy cardboard box, but the sleeves are done nicely, though of course with no info... and there seems to be no website to look up the details (as there is for the Sony/Legacy sets). B. Goren. Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Original Album Series - Duke Ellington All these 5 CDs are included in the Ellington Reprise Mosaic set. Quote
king ubu Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 More of these Original Album Series sets coming up end of July, it seems: Chicago George Duke Everly Brothers Margie Joseph Ben E. King Loudness John Michael Montgomery Tom Paxton Wilson Pickett Rascals David Sanborn Charles Wright Some of the soul thingies look tempting (Ben E. King, Margie Joseph, Wilson Pickett). Quote
crisp Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Some more jazz-oriented releases have just come out: Herbie Mann Ornette Coleman John Coltrane Antonio Carlos Jobim Quote
DobermanBoston Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) Some more jazz-oriented releases have just come out: Ornette Coleman John Coltrane Would it have killed them to have done 6-disc sets, so as not to leave out the essential Atlantic releases Ornette On Tenor and Ole? crisp Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 A Charles Mingus set is coming on August 23: Amazon listing. The image here shows what albums are included. Quote

mjzee Posted March 31, 2015 Author Report Posted March 31, 2015 There's also a Joe Farrell set coming from Sony: Quote
Head Man Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 There's also a Joe Farrell set coming from Sony: I wonder how these will sound compared to the Wounded Bird releases that came out a few years ago....I wasn't too knocked out with how they sounded, they seemed rather loud and harsh. Quote
crisp Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 I doubt they are remasters, but they will probably not be the Wounded Bird versions but the most recent Sony/Columbia ones. Quote
