Johnny E Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Reptet are planning on touring through Michigan and Chicago again in May. Last I heard, Dan was booking the Velvet, but that article by Neil in today’s NYTimes says they are closed and awaiting a new locale. Where’s the place for us to play this time? The Hungry Brain? Elastic? Club Blujazz? Any advice and contacts would be highly appreciated (for places to play in Michigan too). Thanks ya’ll! -j Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Do you still have Hugo's information? Maybe Founder's Brewing Company -- they're on the web. Quote

The bit about the Velvet is about times past. Quote
Johnny E Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 Yes, I just got an email from Dan. Hopefully we'll be getting another show at the Velvet...whew, I thought it had closed! Quote

Hugo would love to have us again but I think that Founders will pay decent and we'll be needing every penny while on the road. We'd like to play Detroit, Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo as well. Keep the suggestions-a-comin'. Quote
ejp626 Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 I don't know who books it, but you might look into Green Mill as well, esp. since you are talking about four months out. I could probably make it to the Velvet, but the Green Mill is a lot closer. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 You might contact Mike Reed - http://mikereedmusic.com/. Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 The Union Caberet and Grill in Kalamzoo is Western Michigan University's jazz club. If you go to Western Michigan University's school of music web page, click on faculty and then Tom Knific -- he's a bassist who might be able to help with how to get in there. Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 There's this, too, in Kalamazoo: KRAFTBRAU BREWERY 402 E Kalamazoo Ave Kalamazoo, MI (269) 384-0288 www.kraftbraubrewery.com There was a guy named Matt Dorbin of "Black Jack Productions" who was booking Kraftbrau some great jazz and improvised music shows. mdorbin@yahoo.com is the last contact I have for him Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Looks like Kraftbrau recently moved and renovated and is looking to reopen very soon. I've e-mail Matt to see if he's up to anything. Good on the Founders hit. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Any chance you can make a quick swing through Philly? Quote

Hey Chuck (and everyone), Mike website only has contact info for his booking agent. Do you (or anyone else) have his email address - or should I just make contact through the emerging improvisors email (contact@emergingimprovisers.org)? Thanks, -john Quote

Does anyone know the guys in Fight the Big Bull ? Contact Peter Solomon who has a jazz show from 7-10p M-F at WCVE Public Radio 88.9 in Richmond. I listen to his show and he's a real nice guy and a pleasure to talk to. He can probably help you. http://ideastations.org/jazz Quote
