BFrank Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 It's an interesting release. I don't in any way feel it's superior to New Rays of the Rising Sun. It's nothing more than a compilation of loose ends, but a satisfying one for me (I'm a Jimi nut, but my favorite Jimi is the final two years, and this material falls in that time frame, though I prefer material with Billy Cox on bass.) To me this is in some ways representing the type of tracks Mike Jeffry might have wished Jimi would release on album, in comparison with the more adventurous and funky material on New Rays of the Rising Sun, and South Saturn Delta. It's safer, blues-based stuff that Jeffry could see thousands of white people going to the stadiums to hear and see. That said, the sound is excellent, and the digital tricks quite acceptable to me. Well said. Quote
.:.impossible Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Yeah, I like it, but it feels like Voodoo Soup, New Rays, South Saturn in that it does not feel like an album to me. I like this version of "Red House", but I have been listening to the version on BLUES for so many years. THAT version, to me, is the definitive version. This one is taking some time for me to get used to! Quote
BFrank Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Yeah, I like it, but it feels like Voodoo Soup, New Rays, South Saturn in that it does not feel like an album to me. Let's face it, he only released 4 albums during his lifetime. Everything else is a collection of one sort or another based on speculation or some producer's imagination. Quote
7/4 Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Jimi has been way overplayed so I haven't spent much time with it Me 2. I feel guilty because I only gave it a couple of spins. Quote

Hey, I'll take what I can get. Somehow Jimi can't be overplayed around here. Quote
Shawn Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 I've spun it quite a few times, I love it. I find it to be a more satisfying release than South Saturn Delta, that one was SO schizophrenic that it just didn't make sense. Valleys flows nicely and as many have mentioned, the version of Red House on here is CRUSHING. Quote
