Monk At the It Club - Mosaic Set - Worth It If You Have CD Set?

Any thoughts? Is this LP (180 gram) set a big improvement over the Columbia CD set? I'm a huge Monk fan, but even I have my limits. Thanks in advance.

The CD from '98 has wonderful sound. The LP set looks nice though.

what the........ You're right Lon I just pulled the disc off the shelf and compared the track timings against the Mosaic site for the 4 LP's and the bits of "Epistrophy" as the themes for each set aren't included except for the final one, b/c I think the liners to the double disc say they wanted to cut repetition. Yet,the live Miles sets seem to include all versions of "The Theme" at the end of them, hmm.............

But really, why--unlike all other Mosaic sets--does the cover of the box set not have a photograph or anything, besides the title?

guess they couldn't license the original cover. Neither version is truly complete though because they both omit "Sweet and Lovely". I have to listen to the CD set again but maybe each "Epistrophy" was included, don't know.

Also, bass solos were removed for the cd version (?) Sigh. Ah well.

IIRC, the bass solo's were put back in to the 2 CD version.

The only differences I see between the 2 CD version and the Mosaic LP's is that

the Mosaic LP set has:

1. Slightly different track order

2. 5 versions of Epistrophy/Themes (previously unissued)

3. Sweet and Lovely (previously unissued)

This is one of my favorite Monk performances so, eventually, I'll have to pick up the LP set too!!

I wish my CD of this played properly. One disc of this set won't play on any of my CD players, and the brick and mortar where I bought it went out of business...
