I thought I'd throw this up for discussion since several people have asked for the ignore function on the political forum. My vote: get rid of it, although I'm probably in the minority.

Oohhh Brad!

Not this again...

I always vote to "add" rather than "take away."

Christ, I hate the damned audio section myself. Shall I start a poll?? (I know I'd get my butt kicked on that one.) ;)

If you no likee, then stay away. ^_^

Personally, I post only rarely there, but I do like having it around nevertheless. I have started to post a few more times lately, but I still don't plan to comment much on politics.

I haven't been reading or posting on the political forum like I used to. Like Conn a while back, I just hit that "this is so boring!!" wall when it looks like its all the same thing day after day. But you can bet Barney's purple ass I voted NO! ;)

Why would we get rid of it when you have the option to ignore it and thus not even see that it's there in the first place?!?

 I'm confused and tempted to close this thread since the entire premise seems silly.

And the trouble with not having a politial forum is that people will start political threads in the "misc" forum. Like it or not, lots of us have some interest in politics, and with all the shit going on in the world - it's difficult to completely clam up on the subject.

Exactly.

We have been through this so many times. Enough already. B3-er has added software to eliminate any sighting of a political idea to those who request it. He will add an ignore function in January so if you ignore Johnny E you will eliminate 90% of the political postings. To those few who remain in the political forum and seem to gain their "raison d'etre" from vilifying George Bush and the Republicans allow them their meager enjoyment. They have so little else.

Hold on a goddamned minute! Whether or not there should be a political forum is an important issue. Obviously I bow to the will of the majority. But you've recognized that it's an issue. Why otherwise would you have first, segregated it from most of the discussion that goes on here, and secondly, tell members that you could use an ignore function.

In addition, you think the premise of the thread silly so you're going to close it for that reason? Do we have censorship here, just because you deem it silly? Or are you going to give me the Tom Evered answer that "it's our board and we can do we want." It is but that belies the point. There's plenty of silly threads that go on this Board and I don't see them being closed. By starting this have I offended anybody? As far as I know I haven't maligned a particular group of people like was done recently. And I haven't called anybody names or insulted them, even though just the other day, somebody asked if I was a narrow mined bigot because I didn't like somebody they didn't like.

It's not actually whether or not there should be a political forum that's got me steamed but the fact that you think you should close it because you think it's silly. I'm not usually quick to anger but this has

Calm down, Brad. I don't think B-3er meant it that way at all.

Truth is that I got the same feeling that this poll seemed wholly superfluous given the changes which had been tabled. My immediate reactions were the same as B-3er's as far as the timing for your thread appeared odd.

My understanding is that Mike over at AAJ suggested the idea of a poll on whether or not to start a politics thread. It wasn't suggested by anyone else but the moderator. I would imagine that Jim (b-3er) could reserve that right for himself as well.

Now of course, I'm a poll lover so you've definitely got some sympathy from me ;)

Hey Brad, don't take it personally. I started a really dumb poll recently on whether or not we should allow Undergroundagent to stay on the board. My poll in retrospect was a lot dumber than yours. B) I sure wish I hadn't started that one, even if I got the idea from someone else to do it.

I think Jim's remark was simply rhetorical. Obviously the thread hasn't been closed. It's probably safe to assume that he & other posters who like the political forums are frustrated that this would come up again as an issue, in light of all that's been done to make the forum unobtrusive. And, as Weizen pointed out, most, if not all, of any inflammatory discussion lately has come from NON-political threads.

What we really need is a poll on whether or not to ban Yankee-bashers... ;) (oops, except that would knock out about 95% of the board... :o )

Leave it as is.....at least all things political are contained in one convenient area that we can read or choose to ignore.....

Closing it would mean that all these topics would migrate to other forums and I wouldn't want to see that happen.....

Yeah, but why? Jesus H. R. Puffnstuff, you won't even be able to see it, and you're still upset that somebody might be talking about politics somewhere on the board?? Give me a break; I thought I understood where you were coming from in the past, Brad, but this is beyond me...

I think the post is self explanatory, but to help you here, my concern is should a thread be deleted because the moderators deem it silly. As long as it doesn't run afoul of the rules that Jim has posted, then it shouldn't be closed. That, in a nutshell, is it.
