The closest one I could come up with is Wayne Shorter's Adam's Apple, recorded four days after my birthday, on February 24, 1966.

There sure seems to be a lot of birthdays between 1963 and 1971 -- what's up with that?

Hey SS1, this was recorded on your day of birth:

According to the book "Jazz Milestones - A pictorial Chronicle of Jazz 1990-1990" , no jazz album has been recorded on my birthday November 1, 1968. Is that a holyday in the US too?

From the week around that day:

- Miles Davis - Filles de Killimanjaro

- Philliy Joe Jones - Trailway Express

- Barney Kessel - Swinging Easy & Hair is beautiful

- Big John Patton - Understanding

- Ronnie Scott - Live at Ronnie Scott's

- John Tchicai - Cadentia Nova Danica

- Stanley Turrentine - Always something there

Not much to get excited about (except Miles of course). I have to find that Tchicai album :)

I don't know about Nov 17, 1970 - but Nov 17, 1958 is when the first session on the Benny Golson and the Philadelphians cd reissue was recorded, which is cool because Lee Morgan is on that date B)

Don't have a discography at hand, but I know that A LOVE SUPREME was recorded on Dec. 9, 1964, exactly one year before my birthday.Ā  Close enough--I'll take it!

December (7, 8 and ) 9, 1965:

J.J. Johnson - J.J.! (The Dynamic Sound Of J.J. With Big Band) - RCA

SoulStation, Duke Ellington privately recorded his birthday appearances at a club in the Northwest over a course of at least five years, and this was leased by Mercer Ellington to Laserlight for a very entertaining five cd set, "Happy Birthday Duke."

I can't off the top of my head name a recording from my birthday--02/11/47--(wait, when were the Bolden cylinders recorded?)--but I'd like to hear whether anyone knows of recording dates whose musical substance was somehow affected by news events. For instance Billie Hollliday's gently ironic reading of Gershwin's "Things Are Looking Up" was recorded just days after George Gershwin's untimely death.

On the day that I was born (March 6, 1954), Miles Davis recorded a quartet session for Blue Note with Horace Silver that appears on "Miles Davis Vol. 2". I had enjoyed that record for many years before I noticed.
