.:.impossible Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 My wife! Today I received a beautiful vinyl copy of Shades of Redd. She chose it because "it looked like classic Blue Note and it had Tina Brooks on it. I recognized the other guys but o don't think I've heard of Freddie Redd. " What?! Quote
JohnS Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Fortunate and very nice. Unfortunately I never get music - my wife says I have enough. Quote

BillF Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) I took my wife to a performance of the Birth of the Cool scores. Afterwards she told her friends, "I had never heard of these pieces when they were announced, but to my surprise I knew every note once they started playing! That's what comes from living with a jazzer!" Edited December 23, 2009 by BillF Quote

Awesome ! If my wife had picked this up based on the presence of "Tina Brooks", it would have been on the assumption that Tina was female. Edited December 23, 2009 by BeBop Quote

mikeweil Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Congrats! Do her a favor in return! Quote
marcello Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 That used to be the Golden Grail for collectors. Is it still? For the original pressing, of course. I have a well worn copy. Quote
Shrdlu Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 I love this session. Tina and Jackie Mac sounded great together. I still have an extra, unopened copy of the "Connoisseur" CD of this, if anyone wants it. But it's not really rare. There might be an RVG by now, and there certainly was a TOCJ. Quote
king ubu Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Fortunate and very nice. Unfortunately I never get music - my wife says I have enough. And probably she's right, ain't she? Kind of in the same boat here... if I don't explicitly ask for something, I won't get any music, and this year I didn't ask for anything... but getting music at any other time than x-mas or birthday (and I assume a gift on Dec. 23rd isn't an x-mas gift? Or just a "sort of"?) is quite impossible to imagine... Quote
