Stereojack
yeah, gotta have it, though I am becoming increasingly pessimistic about the chances of it emerging during my lifetime. Sunenblick claims that the 1940's material is too short for a CD release, and he is looking for something to add to it. I lent him and unlisted 78 by Jaki, and he has yet to return it. AllenLowe
well, it should come out, and sorry about your 78 - did he indicate how many minutes of stuff he has?
Stereojack
well, it should come out, and sorry about your 78 - did he indicate how many minutes of stuff he has? I think it was something in the ballpark of 25-30 minutes. He played it for me way back when, and I seem to recall it bought Tatum to mind. Even something positive and in today's terms, "affirming"? (although I somehow doubt that is the gist of it!!! ) Must say that I have a number of Uptown CD's and am positive to very positive about all of them. Wish they would re-issue that Frank Wess/Johnny Coles "Two at the Top" date. It's a dandy. Edited February 16, 2011 by John Tapscott

AllenLowe
I heard some of the Schildkraut date; Dave played a cassette for me a long time ago (musta been the late '70s?). I think it was Hod Obrien on piano, and Leroy Williams on drums, though I'm not sure. The rhythm section did not jell, and Dave was a hard guy to play with (he liked to turn the beat around and see if the rhythm could stay in the right place; sort of a musical game of chicken). I can't remember the bass player, unfortunately, and I don't think it sounded real bad, but that was 35 years ago. I wish somebody would bootleg it. (thinking about it - Ben Brown on bass? possibly....) I was also at the Dickey Wells date (Dick Katz was on piano) - weird thing about that was that they put out the lesser takes; Dickey sounded way better on the stuff they kept in the can.
