Brownian Motion Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Nice article on Dave, who is being honored by the Kennedy Center. Quote
neveronfriday Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 I love a lot of Brubeck's stuff. Way back, when I was a toddler, it got me into jazz (along with Goodman, Parker and ... Glenn Miller). Have tried to complete my Brubeck collection of worthwhile sessions these past months. P.S.: I might be the only person on this planet who thinks that "Gone with the Wind" might possibly be the epitome of what the quartet sounded like at its best. I think everyone else thinks it's a mediocre recording, at best. Quote
Shrdlu Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Your experience parallels mine, Neveronfriday. Dave sure deserves a lot of honors. I've always liked "Gone With The Wind", along with its matchmeet, "Southern Scene". By always, I mean ever since the LPs first came out. Quote
AllenLowe Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 I think that the best Brubeck is solo Brubeck, maybe 1956 - he was actually a fine pianist in his day. Quote
Shrdlu Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 ... in any day. My late wife, who was a classically trained pianist, heard Dave playing some Mozart, and she said he was fantastic. (Glad she liked it - Wolfgang is a dweadful bore to me, and I've stood outside the house where he was born, lol. It's in Salzburg.) Quote
AllenLowe Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I will grant that he is a very SINCERE musician. beyond that, he's on his own. Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 The Kennedy Center Honors Progam will air tonight at 9 p.m. on CBS. Story: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/28/AR2009122802059.html?hpid=moreheadlines Quote

vajerzy Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 That was a nice show and a great Dave Brubeck tribute- especially having his sons in the tribute. His face was wonderful- full of surprise and happiness. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 yes, especially the surprise on his face and when you saw him say "son of a.............." when his sons came on. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 that's not a v. nice thing to say 'bout his wife! Quote
