kybds Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Does anyone know if Bill Heid is appearing at Cliff Bells in Detroit Nov. 25 2009 with the Spangler Organ Trio? And, will he have a real b-3? Thanks for any info, this guy is the real deal. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 RJ posts here. I'll alert him to this thread. Cliff Bells has a house organ, the Hammond A102 with a Leslie 122. So Heid, if he is there, will probably play that. An A102 is a B3 with internal speakers. There's another great organ group that plays Cliff Bells now and again (like last night)... can't think of their name though. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Oh and yes, Bill Heid is the man. Quote
RJ Spangler Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Sorry, I totally missed this thread ~ yes Bill did play with that night and it was a gas as expected. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 RJ, the poster is asking about this upcoming Wednesday! Quote
bertrand Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 I was told last night that Bill Heid went back to China. Bertrand. Quote
kybds Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 Thanks for the info, I'm still confused, but thats my normal state. We did see Bill with R.J. at the Cadiex Cafe a while ago (nord electro 2) and the backing talent alone was worth the trip (I'm out in Brooklyn Mi.) I think we'll just show up and enjoy the show. Thanks Quote

If so, how great is it to not have to schlep your own rig? We hauled a B3 to our gig over the weekend, and the idea of playing somewhere with a house organ is dreamy!! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Glenn, I actually drove up to Michigan Tech (in the upper peninsula of Michigan... 9 hours, one way) to pick up the A102, drove all the way down to Detroit to deliver it and wrestled that damn thing in there (with the help of only one other person). I did it as a favor to the club because it's a great place and the owner is a cool dude. After all that... no, I don't use it. I prefer my XK3 / XK System. Why? Because it sounds better. And it's more flexible; I can control my outboard gear from it. It's a lot to haul, though not as bad as a B3 (I did that for almost 10 years... Joe can attest). These days there's really no reason to haul a B3 around anymore. Your organist should look into an XK System. The Pro system is killer and very portable and sounds fantastic, especially through a real Leslie. Quote

Unfortunately, our organist is moving to Malaysia for the next year, so we're going to be shifting personnel soon. Quote
