1. Well, I'm in an impossible position there. If I refer to a specific reference then I'm just giving it more publicity; if not I fail to make my case. You don't have to look hard.

Well, if you wish you can PM me with it and see if I agree, even though I'm not sure how to use that feature, but I can figure it out!

2. Yes, I've no doubt they said that in Munich in 1923. And would you defend those arrested for racial abuse at football matches? After all, 'they're entitled to their opinions.' Yes, he's entitled to his opinion. But it's an opinion that flies in the face of the way in which posters have behaved towards one another most of this time on this board. It is for him to fit in, not the existing board members to adapt to his intolerance.

Now that's a bit uncalled for don't you think? I would literally die to defend innocent people. I guess you'll just have to take my word for it since you don't know me. I am of the opinion that expressing an unpopular, racist opinion or making lewd sexist jokes is not the same as physically harming someone, their property, or conspiring to illegally revoke their civil liberties and rights.

If you want, we can continue to discuss this via PM, cause I don't want to stink up B-3er's nice board with a debate. I guess after this post everyone will pretty much know the generalities of my thought process anyways, so no need for me to post again here. :)

Apologies, jazz.

It was a rhetorical question, not directed at you personally. I was questioning your point that bigots are entitled to their point of view and the right to express it. Well, of course. But if they do so in open society they should, in my view, be challenged.

If they want to express those views to one another in private then that is fine. But if they want to express views that try to make others uncomfortable then they should be challenged. Ignoring them is certainly an option, often a wise one. But not always. If everyone on this board had ignored the offensive posts in question one member of this board would have been left isolated.

Again, I'm not suggesting anything about you as a person. Just disagreeing that the 'ignore' stance is always the right one.

Bev,

You seem to be among the very most "put out" members. You're obviously a regular at both AAJ and here. You say that "ignore" is usually the correct choice, but my question is, how exactly did you do this?

Its been mentioned that within a month or two, this software will include an "ignore" function. AAJ already has it already-did you use it AAJ? Or did you continuously look at his posts as an accident scene that you can't turn away from? Did you read each of his posts and then decide whether it was worth the bother of responding or ignoring? Or did you have the Ignore option in use, but couldn't help yourself and clicked on the "see post now" button whenever a blank post appeared?

I have to assume that you didn't do a lot of "ignoring" of DEEP's posts because you seem so knowledgeable about them, both here and at AAJ.

would we be warned if we talk about herbie han-cock.....

Or Sonny Stitt?

Damn, those bad words are so offensive. ;)

Dan,

I don't use ignore buttons. I browse boards, read posts as they come. And generally ignore this sort of manic behaviour by not responding - I have an ignore button in my head that works perfectly. I don't know how many of D'Imperio's post are left over at AAJ but if they are you'll not see any comments from me about him for many months until last week.

No, I don't go looking for anyone's silly posts as a rule...though I will admit that it was a bit hard not to ignore a whole thread with mine and Chris' name on it. I'd not be human not to wonder what the hell he's saying elsewhere.

Anyway, I'll keep you happy by promising to keep out of the drumming thread - he can have free reign there. And those who are star-struck by communicating with a minor jazz 'celebrity' can join in the chuckles.

But if he chooses to post in the general columns then I'm going to see what he says. Chances are I won't say a thing. There may be occasions when I won't be able to hold back.

This is not about D'Imperio and his childish comments. It's about his relentless hounding of Chris via innuendo. And, above all, about the failure of so many on this board to speak out for Chris. That disturbs me greatly.

I think the targeting and goading of Chris by WINGY is deplorable. Sorry, Bev, if I haven't said so specifically, but I've been mostly away from the board since Wednesday night (well, away more than usual anyway). Chris doesn't deserve this kind of treatment, nor do you, nor does anyone else on this board. (Well, I guess it probably goes without saying that no one deserves this kind of treatment, ever.)

Same here.

WTF.

No need to apologise.

It is those who have rushed to embrace D'Imperio and said nothing about his treatment of Chris who puzzle me.

Bev,

Thanks for your answers regarding the "ignore" button. It was just as I suspected-for you, it doesn't matter if there is an "ignore" function, you will not engage it. If this is a common attitude, than it does not bode well for the idea that the future upgrade of this board's software to include an ignore function is going to save the day.

Now let me get to your post I have quoted above.

I don't get this at all.

Look, people react differently to different people. Some people see Wingy's posts as, most of the time, a laugh riot. Some people take his posts way too seriously. And some are surely offended by him.

But calling a failure to oppose him "cold moral cowardice" is simply a projection of your ideal world on the rest of us. Kindly dismount your high horse.

Too little, too late, totally unwelcome by all, I'm sure, but...

It must be remembered that Chris and Danny know each other off the board, and have for some time (or so I've been told), which adds another dimension to their exchanges.

It is my sincere hope that their rift can be patched and that we can continue to enjoy both of their personalities and insights minus the unsightly veneer of personal matters being taken public.

Danny, don't be a TOTAL dick in public. There are lines, (and you know it), and not just of Peruvian Marching Powder. Would that life were that good, er..., simple...

Bev, it's not going to make you feel any better (nor should it), but you were basically in the wrong place at the wrong time. You've been made a prop in a play that really has little or nothing to do with you, other than your continued appearance to (justifiably) protest. That's not cool for you, but that's what's happened.

Who am I to be saying all this? Nobody. So fuck me, David, and good night for NBC news.

Great post Jim S!!

I've been away from this board for awhile and am dismayed to see this stupid argument raging once again. Well, maybe it isn't a stupid argument; perhaps it is a necessary one.

I feel bad for B-3er that this "problem" has surfaced. I am personally surprised at Chris. He has always struck me as quite high minded and quite thick skinned when it came to banter and such. Now he threatens to leave if Wingy stays. I suppose it is natural for people to threaten to leave if another person gets under their skin, but I never would have thought Chris would have been one of those people.

If someone pissed me off, I'd fire back a bit then feel bad about it and eventually cool off. I certainly wouldn't call for his banishment. Sorry, Chris I'm not with you on that one.

As mentioned before, you guys can tease me all you want, about my sexual orientation, my racial background, my habits. Chances are that I will laugh louder than you. I think a good teasing is a sign of great friendship. Now, I realize there's some venom behind Wingy's comments about Chris, but as Jim Sangrey said, we don't know what's been going on outside the board.

This banishing shit pisses me off. I don't like it at all. If you guys can't take someone then ignore him for crying out loud.

Wingy's point about all the hits is spot on, in my opinion. People just like controversy and they have a difficult time ignoring it. Wingy is incorrect, however, in assuming that B-3er cares whether it brings more board traffic or whatever. No one gives a shit about that.

We've got terrific people here whether it's the core group of Rooster, and Moose, and AB, and the two Jim's, and Ghostie, and Catesta, and Lon, and Weizy and Johnny E, and Joe G. (Sorry for leaving names out: it would go on forever); or whether it's valuable people like Jazz who turns up now and then. We've got a great group of European people like Bev and Couw and others from around the world like Barak and Marcus; plus the knowledgable stars like Chuck, and Michael Fitzgerald and Chris. Ain't NOTHING that will break this group that easily!! :tup GregM didn't do it, and the controversy with Wingy won't affect things either.

Bev, I think people have the right to make racist and homophobic statements if they so desire. I also think that other board members will jump on them and call them for it and THAT'S THE WAY THE WORLD WORKS. There's a natural system of checks and balances in human intercourse. This plays out on these boards as well. If someone gets out of line, then they get hammered back into place again. I personally didn't feel that Wingy's "homophobic" comments were worthy of any rebuttal on my part. I did not read an ounce of seriousness in them. Please don't feel that I am disregarding your comments in general. I do believe you have expressed yourself quite well.

Jim: (b-3er) I strongly believe that all banishments should be temporary and not permanent. Greg and Kevin and everyone else should be invited back if they want. If they get too far out of line again, then they must be sent back to the cooling tank (solitary confinement :P )

About the warning system: I don't really know the answer here. They might work so long as no one can view anyone else's warning bar. (Man, you guys should see mine: it's lit up like a Christmas tree!! ;) Another option would be to pm people whenever they're going too far.

You know in my real extended family, I've got a sister with whom I've always had a difficult relationship. Right now we're doing fine, but I've had to deal with it. That's how the REAL WORLD works, folks. Learn to deal with other members of this board family. You can't just banish people you don't like from this world. We're not children.

Sorry if I'm not articulate here; there's just too much to say.

Peace.

WINGY has got to go. That prick has been getting me in trouble for years. Chris A and I go back a few years and we've never had any problems until that asshole, WINGY, got between us. The son-of-a-bitch has even got people beliening he's me.

The bastard is a troll and I'm sick of it. He's impersonated me on other boards as well. Wingy may actually be KROESEN who was my arch enemy on other boards.

My vote on WINGY.... :tdown:tdown:tdown

I'm with Bev, Moose, Gary, Ron and the rest....BLOW WINGY OUT AND BRING CHRIS BACK.

WHY I OUGHTA!!!! :D:lol::g

RANDALL,

Now be a little more altruistic please.

Being a member of the staff here at Organissimo do you think it possible to take up a collection (in British, "A WHIP 'ROUND") in order to send a number of POLO PONIES to a deprived area from which it appears STAPLETON dwells??

It is rumored that at STAPELTON'S Polo Club, when complimented on the shine of his foot wear, he was asked, "Stapes, how do you achieve that sheen?" Stapes responded, "It is the responsibility of MY MAN." Which was followed by, "How does your man do it?" Stapleton replied, "I DON'T KNOW BUT I'LL HAVE HIM AHSKED"

POLOPONIES ?

Harold,

Is the accent on the middle syllable on "poLOPponies"?? :D

I have one more time to use RODOMONTADES in a sentence and, according to my personal rules for expanding my vocabulary, it's mine. :D
