Dan Gould Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Huh? Freddie Hubbard with Junior Cook, Harold Mabern Quote
Swinging Swede Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 Yes, the 1969 session has since been released. But there was a 1964 session listed in advance that never turned up (see post #37). Quote
Mark Stryker Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 Not sure if it's been mentioned on the board or not, but there's a new posting of the Cecil Taylor Quintet at the 1965 festival -- with Bill Barron, Jimmy Lyons, Henry Grimes, Andrew Cyrille. Three tunes: "Steps," "Unit Structures," "Tales (8 Whisps)" Total of nearly 50 minutes. Just listening to the opening of "Steps" and it's pretty incredible. Quote

JSngry Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Bill Barron and Jimmy Lyons? Together? w/Grimes & Cyrille? Live? I've glanced at what's available & found it intersesting, but not really compelling enough to pay for. Not these days. But this? FLAC, and in a hurry! Quote
John L Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Thank you very much for the heads up on this Cecil Taylor concert. It is truly astounding, an instant classic! Quote

(Most sets have a long write-up giving personnel and context but I couldn't find it for this one.) Quote

GA Russell Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Any idea how many hours a non-member can listen to a month before he is cut off? Quote
GA Russell Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Thanks Jim. That's plenty for me for now. I've just finished listening to the Sonny Rollins New Paultz concert. After that, I've no desire to hear more! Quote

tranemonk Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 last night I purchased their Teddy Wilson gig at the Great American Music Hall from 1977.. Figured for $7 it was a good way to determine whether I might be interested in the Storyville box....  http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/teddy-wilson/concerts/great-american-music-hall-march-18-1977-1st-set.html After listening to it... I'll pass.... :beee: Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I believe the Messengers set includes Woody Shaw ... Quote
Swinging Swede Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 More concerts released: Newport Jazz Festival 1955 Teddi King *Woody Herman & Erroll Garner Newport Jazz Festival 1972 Freddie Hubbard Quintet Oscar Peterson Newport Jazz Festival 1973 Benny Goodman Quartet Donny Hathaway Herbie Mann Group Ruby Braff-George Barnes Quartet *This concert has been removed, but not before someone had commented that Woody Herman and Erroll Garner sounded remarkably like Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck... The Benny Goodman concert reunites the original quartet for what must have been the last time. Gene Krupa was very ill and would die just a few months later. An eyewitness account relates that Krupa fell over his drumset when Hampton patted him on his back at the end of the concert, and he had to be helped up. Quote
Stonewall15 Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Did anyone manage to record the 1955 Herman/Garner session before it was removed? If so, please contact me, either by PM or email hershia@cfl.rr.com. Thanx, Dan. Quote

Dan Gould Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Not to mention a Junior Mance and a Kenny Burrell from the same year, and recently a Hampton Hawes of similar vintage got posted but I don't think anyone noted it here. Quote
GA Russell Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Wolfgang's Vault now has the Maynard Ferguson Orch at Newport 1960. Quote
