Ken Dryden Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 I just learned through Facebook that Stacy Rowles has passed away. I haven't learned any details. Quote
BeBop Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Wow. I can't imagine she was all that old. She joins her father on a recording I have and remember enjoying. Rest peacefully. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted October 31, 2009 Author Report Posted October 31, 2009 One FB poster believes the cause of death was a head-on car crash, though I haven't found anything on line. Quote
Free For All Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 One FB poster believes the cause of death was a head-on car crash, though I haven't found anything on line. I believe that poster to be an accurate source, my understanding is that she passed away from injuries received in the accident. Very sad news. RIP Quote
fasstrack Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Born Sep 11, 1955.That makes her younger than me. Very sad...... Quote
ValerieB Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 all i have heard is that she was in a car accident recently, received treatment in a hospital and was sent home to recuperate. there is unverified talk about her dying as a result of undiagnosed damage received as a result of the accident. extremely tragic and sad news, indeed! Hmmm....inadequate medical care? Reminds me of Johnny Hodges' death in a dentist's chair. Stacey was a very fine singer as well as flugelhorn/trumpeter. And a lovely person.... Quote
Ken Dryden Posted October 31, 2009 Author Report Posted October 31, 2009 She wasn't recorded nearly often enough. My condolences to her family. Quote
Tom Storer Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Sad news. She had a wonderful sound. Quote
brownie Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 The very talented daughter of a jazz giant... A favorite disc of the father and daughter! Quote
Spontooneous Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 She was more versatile than she gets credit for. Hear her on Nels Cline's "Angelica." She was also a generous interviewee, I was pleased to discover. RIP Stacy. Quote
marcello Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 The very talented daughter of a jazz giant... A favorite disc of the father and daughter! I'll have to listen to this one again... Quote
flat5 Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 I heard her once in a club near San Francisco with Jimmy about 1970, I think. I was very impressed. Hope to find a recording of her brass playing some time. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Me and the Moon is $ 60 or more on amazon marketplace! Quote
jazzwestcoast Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 I'm totally devastated by this terrible loss. Stacy and I have a lot in common - our fathers were dear friends and musical brothers. Jimmy was part of the Nocturne Records rhythm section with Harry Babasin and Roy Harte. Stacy and I were born in the same year and have continued the artistic legacies our father's started sixty years ago. The contributions given to the jazz world by the Rowles' will always be remembered in west coast jazz history... My deepest condolences to the family... Quote
