The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Bill started this off on the Atlanta shop thread. I thought it was good enough to have its own thread. MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 Here's the posts from that thread Very taken by that name: Criminal Records. Until now my favorites have been Hairy Records (Liverpool) and Reckless Records (Soho, London, now closed). Any other good record store names? Vinyl Demand (Brighton) MG Sound Advice (Cardiff - deceased) - very good jazz section upstairs, but run by the head sherang of the Welsh Jazz Society, so he was always contemptuous of the records I bought. paul secor Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 The late, lamented Finyl Vinyl in NYC. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 I suppose the one I worked for wasn't bad - Fine Records - nicely understated bombast, quite in keeping with the character of my boss. And who could ever forget CHEAPO CHEAPO RECORDS (mentioned in another thread about old record shops) MG Quote
BruceH Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 There was a "Cheapo Records" in Central Square, Cambridge, MA. Don't know if it's still there. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Needmore Discs. This suburban Kansas City store went out of business in August. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Late, lamented store in Grand Rapids, MI - Vinyl Solution. Quote
BeBop Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Grooveyard (Oakland) Mad Platter (Riverside, CA) Know Name Records (Minneapolis) Worlds Records (all over) Revolver Records (bunches of 'em) Gimme Gimme Records (NYC) Angry Mom Records (Ithica) Driving Records (can't recall) Quote
ii-5-i Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Yes, I remember frequenting the "Vinyl Solution" in Grand Rapids. Those were the good old days before the scourge of political correctness strangled public discourse. Quote
Dave James Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Although shuttered many years ago, when I first started buying records here in Portland, I did so at the Long Hair Music Faucet. It was the first place I ever saw English pressings of LP's. They were outrageously priced between $5.95 and $6.95. Up over and out. Quote
spinlps Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Great record store in Minneapolis that I first experienced in Las Vegas nearly 10 years ago at their booth in the Consumer Electronics Show. Electric Fetus Quote

GA Russell Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 (edited) Fifteen years ago there was a used record shop in Norcross, GA (suburban Atlanta), called Eat More Records. Edited October 24, 2009 by GA Russell Quote

Royal Oak Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 One in Manchester (maybe no longer there) - Sifters. I always thought this a good name; conjures up images of sorting and sifting through racks of vinyl. I believe it was namechecked on an early Oasis song. Don't know if it ever had a jazz section, as the last time I went was well before I started listening to jazz. You must know this one Bill? Quote

It doesn't have a jazz section, but I used to go in there with my daughter who was an indie fan. The Gallaghers used to reminisce about their youth in Burnage spent trespassing on the railway, breaking into cars and looking through records in Sifters! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 24, 2009 Author Report Posted October 24, 2009 sometimes shop at the Vinyl Resting Place. I LOVE that! It's as if the owner didn't EXPECT to sell anything! MG Quote
