randissimo Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) Doe anyone know of any recordings ever done or released with an organ player? If not, Roy would be an interesting fit with someone like Larry Goldings. Edited October 12, 2009 by randissimo Quote
CJ Shearn Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I have a Jimmy Smith bootleg with Roy on drums Quote
Chas Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I have a Jimmy Smith bootleg with Roy on drums Roy and Jimmy were in The Newport Jazz Festival All-Stars band that toured in '72 ; I take it this boot is from that time ? Roy's on a few sessions with organists , but it looks like his only appearance with an organ leader is Shirley Scott's Workin' from '61 . Quote
brownie Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Roy Haynes plays drums on volume 5 (the Jimmy Smith Jam) of the Newport in New York 72 series on Cobblestone Quote
CJ Shearn Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) yes, the boot is from that time, I got it from DIME a few years back. It's a perfect soundboard from Germany, and Jimmy is playing without pedals because they forgot to bring the B-3 pedal board! I've never heard the official album, but part of it has been on CD right? I did have one of the Newport in New York volumes when I was a kid it was on Cobblestone's cheap subsidiary Kory. Edited October 12, 2009 by CJ Shearn Quote
