In your shoes, shopping wise, I would look up the various Borders outlet stores in the area and check them out. . . when I've been able to visit them I've found all sorts of great cheap jazz cds. . . it has been several years though since I was last within the stores.

Check out the various Allied Record Exchanges for used cds.

I live two hours from Cleveland and rarely go for jazz cds.

There's a Record Exchange in Parma Hts, Elyria, Medina, North Olmsted, Cuyahoga Falls, Canton, Fairlawn, and Solon.

I don't know my way around there, so don't ask... :rhappy:

Evan,

If he's playing I would highly recommend seeing Ernie Krivda. He's a marvelous local tenor player who can really surprise you.

the Boarding House in University Circle has some great local guys and Nighttown on Cedar Hill hass both local and national acts. Check it out.

As for cds, Record Exchange used to be so good, but is dropping in selection over the years. Not sure there's a great place to buy jazz.

oh, and the Boarding House had(?) the BEST chili in the western world.

Used to be a place called Wax Stax on the East Side...great jazz selection over there but it's been so many years that when I was there the Browns were good and the Indians sucked.

There was also an awesome little place in the Old Arcade where I bought my first CDs ever.

Man with Golden Arm and Evan,

Sadly Wax Stax went out of business about 5 years ago and so did the place in the Old Arcade- that is a beautiful place to visit but the store is gone.

Oh Evan, not jazz related but if you get a chance treat yourself to a visit to Great Lakes Brewery near the West Side Market. This place has some of the best beers I have had on any continent.

Come on! There's gotta be some place in Cleveland to buy jazz cds. I would like to know myself as I'm only two hours away.

I mean, a city of that size; surely there's more than just rock and roll...? :excited:

Well, i'm back from cleveland. Checked both alternative newspapers--a jazz desert. nuthin.

Went to the Exchange in Parma Heights and found Lee Morgan's Sixth Sense" for $7.00 :D

Went to the cd exchange in cleveland and found Greg Osby's first for $2.99 :g

Oh, and it snowed Friday night!

All in all, a good time was had by all.

Evan,

If you are looking for the big jazz names of international fame, well yes, they rarely pass through Cleveland, but there should have been some local guys playing that are quite good. Don't tell me the Boarding House or Nighttown, which feature live jazz 5 nights a week have closed? these clubs are on the east side and maybe you didn't go there.
