clifford_thornton Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Check it out here. I don't know if it's appropriate for authors of online material to be pinning their work here, so please let me know otherwise and I'll stop. Quote
mjazzg Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Check it out here. I don't know if it's appropriate for authors of online material to be pinning their work here, so please let me know otherwise and I'll stop. I don't know if it's appropriate but I do know it is an enjoyable and insightful read, thanks Clifford. I enjoy a number of recordings that Harris Eisenstadt appears on or leads and this interview helped me to understand his music-making more. I was particularly interested to read of the influence of Wadada Leo Smith. Canada Day's on my to-buy list just as soon as Claen Feed (what a great label) post it on their site. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 I really like Canada Day. Glad you dug the interview! Quote
relyles Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I normally find your intereviews informative. Thanks. Canada Day sounds like something worth hearing. Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Yeah, can't wait to hear Canada Day. Guewel is totally awesome for anyone who has yet to check it out - really inventive writing, great playing from all involved. To play with, whether time/no-time/fully-scored/completely free - whatever - he brings FEEL like you wouldn't believe. I think your point towards the end Clifford about his stuff not being about the drummer first, then the rest, is absolutely spot on: he is one of the most 'generous' musicians you could wish to play with - always 100% sounding like himself, and yet 100% supporting the other musicians in the group and trying to make them sound as good as possible the whole time. Cool stuff. Also - Vista with Adam Rudolph and Sam Rivers - fantastic!!! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 7, 2009 Author Report Posted October 7, 2009 [insert plug for the Hawkins/Lash/Eisenstadt/Bynum Convergence Quartet CD here, on FMR - it's a fine one!] Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 hey if we couldn't plug our own work here I would probably shrivel up and die (so far I've only shriveled up) - Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 7, 2009 Author Report Posted October 7, 2009 Well, I was plugging it for him - it's definitely a notable CD! Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 [insert plug for the Hawkins/Lash/Eisenstadt/Bynum Convergence Quartet CD here, on FMR - it's a fine one!] Very kind :blush2: - actually, hopefully news in literally a day or two about the second album, a studio session from earlier this year Quote

Glad to hear there's another on the horizon Quote
Nate Dorward Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Hey, good to see. Harris is one talented guy.... [plug warning] if you search the net you'll find an interview I did with him several years ago, just after he moved from the West Coast to NY. I'm glad to see the Canada Day group's coming to Toronto later this month: it's on my calendar... Quote
