Teasing the Korean Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) Anyone know what has become of the masters for this label? Have things been reissued on CD? I have the Collectibles CD of Mundell Lowe's "Satan in High Heels" and it sounds like a needle drop. I don't think I have any other CDs of stuff from CP, though I have lots on vinyl. Just curious. jostber Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Seems like the label was bought by Koch Records in 2005: http://articles.latimes.com/2005/apr/08/en...ent/et-quick8.1 Here's a previous thread too: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/lofiversi...php/t43818.html Quote
Dave James Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 I downloaded Pearson's Les Liaisons Dangereuses from eMusic awhile back. Not sure what that means, but I thought I'd throw it out there. Up over and out. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) I'm not sure what that means either. Jordan's? Didn't know there was a Pearson's. Edited October 3, 2009 by jazzbo Quote
Dave James Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Oops. Got my Dukes screwed up. It's Jordan, not Pearson. I've been spending too much time reading the Bad News From Mosaic thread. Thanks Lon. Up over and out. Quote

Chas Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 The only one on vinyl I ever owned was Cecil Payne's The Connection (w/Kenny Drew), nice session but not a very good pressing. I see recordings on the label all the time but I've always heard that the pressings were poor so I've avoided them. Both of the Payne sessions are out on a Fresh Sound CD , but the sound is , as expected , poor . FWIW , I find those sessions middling anyway . Quote
JohnS Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 In addition to the above I have 'The East and WEst of Jazz' One side by Duke Jordan, the other by Sadik Hakim. The Slide Hampton came out on a Fresh Sound cd in rather poor sound. I can recall when these came out in the UK (local pressings) with very flimsy jackets. They sold for 10 shillings (50p), quite a bargain at the time in newsagents and tobacconists. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw them. Quote

I've seen what must be hundreds of copies of the Barry Miles LP in the UK pressing - that one seems to be everywhere. I have a couple - including the Slide Hampton and Duke Jordan 'The Connection'. colinmce Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 All I have from them is a pretty crummy Lester Young bootleg (Pres is Blue). Wasn't sure what it was when I bought it, but at least the jacket is nice. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Y'all can thank Aubrey Mayhew, once owner if the Texas School Book Depository. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 yea chuck, when that name was mention in the orig. article post i googled it and got all these out of contorl Kennedy links, etc......so wait how did this person become owner of chan's record labels vault? whats the connection? (is MONEY the connection, or is there something more....) Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 don't put down that Lester Young record - it was Dave Schildkraut's favorite - Quote
epistrophy007 Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) One of the few vocal outings of the label; Jerri Winters, 'Winters Again' PLP808, with the Mundell Lowe Orchestra. There's a possibility that there was a brief Japanese reissue in the early '90s. Although Billboard (8/11/1962) said that she's a "classy singer" , "neatly backed by Lowe and his ork." and that "this album could get her renewed attention", it was the last album she recorded. j. I had that one - played it a couple of times, but it wasn't doing anything for me - not even ten bobs' worth Chris Connor was my idol in those days (still is for that kind of singing). Didn't keep it long. MG Quote

paul secor Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 (edited) I have an LP by the Orioles on the Charlie Parker label - Modern Sounds of The Orioles Greatest Hits. Sonny Til is the only original member on the record, and most of the tunes are remakes of the original Orioles' early hits. Interestingly, one of the original tunes is by Matthew Gee (I assume that's the trombonist), "Don't Mess Around with My Love". Haven't listened to the record in a long while, but I remember it as being pretty decent. edit - Mundell Lowe plays guitar on The Orioles LP, and is listed as arranger and has co-composer credit on a couple of tunes.
