I'm kind of uncomfortable starting a thread with my name in the title, but....

Every few years I lose my mind and start a band. We keep it going until we're all worn out from scrambling for gigs in Atlanta and decide we've lost enough money. Then we disband until I miss playing my own tunes so much that I start the process over again.

Well, the newest edition of the Jeff Crompton Quartet will be making its debut at Eyedrum Gallery in Atlanta a week from tonight - October 9 at 9:00 PM. Can't give you any links to websites or clips because there aren't any yet, but we hope to get a decent recording from the gig. The band is two reeds, bass and drums, playing free jazz originals that (mostly) swing or groove, as well as some Ornette and possibly a little Monk. If you're in the area, I'd love to see you at Eyedrum.

For anyone close to Atlanta, I wanted to let you know that the Jeff Crompton Quartet will be having one of our infrequent appearances on Friday, May 28 at 9:00 PM at Kavarna in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Atlanta. Free jazz originals and probably some Ornette and Monk will on the menu. And if you don't like the music, Kavarna carries a killer Belgian beer called Le Fin du Monde which will take the top of your head off.

The final rehearsal was pretty intense; I think what we accomplished surprised us all. I'm really looking forward to this gig.

Post notice here or PM me if you have anything happening in mid-late June, mid-late July. I'd be interested and will likely have some 'free' time.

Have a good time on the 28th!

The Jeff Crompton Quartet hasn't been active for about six months, but we have two performances coming up, for those in or near the Atlanta area:

Wednesday, August 31 (9:00 PM) at the Music Room below Pizzaria Vesuvius, 327 Edgewood Avenue in the Old 4th Ward. There is a Facebook event page here. Our regular bassist won't be there, but we'll have a more than adequate sub in Chris Riggenbach, formerly of the Gold Sparkle Band.

Saturday, October 1 (9:00 PM) at Kavarna, 707B East Lake Drive, Decatur, in the Oakhurst neighborhood.

We play free jazz that (mostly) swings/grooves, and we'll be playing mostly my compositions, with maybe a little Ornette or Monk. On both of these gigs we'll be joined by the Hidden Noise Ensemble, a very fine guitar/percussion duo.

Our kind of jazz is definitely a minority interest in Atlanta, but if you're in the area and this sounds interesting to you, please come out and support us.

And see my updated website for all your Jeff Crompton needs. I've finally added the downloadable archive tracks that were on my old website before it died.
