Free For All Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Today is/was Kenny's birthday. A great artist who left us way too soon. I really have enjoyed his work with Wynton & Branford Marsalis, Elvin, Kenny Garrett and Sting as well as his own recordings. I have a semi-obscure session with Scofield called Who's Who? where he plays some tasty Rhodes. Fantastic musician. Very sad that he passed away so young. He had a lot of music yet to play. Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 RIP Kenny. He also plays with Sco on Miroslav Vitous' "Guardian Angels". I think those are their only two recordings together. Kenny's also fine on Kenny Garrett's "Songbook". Quote
7/4 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Very sad that he passed away so young. He had a lot of music yet to play. He had heart disease and his heart couldn't take the abuse. It's a shame, he was already well known at the time. Quote
7/4 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Kenny was on the first Mike Brecker album in Impulse...man, I love that album. It brings back memories of when I was first checking out jazz. Quote
mikeweil Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 I once saw him live with Stone Alliance. He plays some great modern mainstream piano on this Tain album: Highly recommended! Quote
felser Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 I really like him with Branford et al, on the live Sting album, especially his solo on "When The World is Running Down". The only post-Police Sting album worth bothering with to my ears. Quote
