The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Posting just now in the MJQ rediscovered thread, I noted that I like the MJQ over breakfast. I wondered what others felt. I manage to get breakfast to myself. I take my wife a cup of tea and maybe toast or cereal in bed and get my own in peace and quiet for an hour or so. MJQ is good then. I also like to listen to small group swing at that time. Bud Johnson's two albums on OJC have been getting a lot of breakfast listens, as have the Teddy Wilson Brunswicks. Blue Mitchell is another who's particularly welcome at breakfast. MG Quote
AllenLowe Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 the sound of eggs frying is music to me ears - not mention 430 mg of cholesterol. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Bossa Nova, Michel Legrand, MJQ are my top choices. Add the Swingle Singers if mamosas are involved. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Chopin would be good, then again if it wouldn't be for my neighbors a bit of Led Zep would do the trick. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 I eat breakest (three crumpets and a cup of tea) over listening to music. Quote
BillF Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Someone on the board expressed surprise a few weeks ago about my starting the day with Lockjaw/Griffin, Lookin' at Monk. However, what they thought was 7am was actually 12 midday here! Quote
papsrus Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 My cd compulsion forced me to give up eating some years ago. Sounds nice though. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Have never done any listening during breakfast. Coffee, NYT Online, MLB Network or Sportscenter on in the background for highlights I am interested in watching. Quote
mjzee Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 I listen while in the shower. I have an iPod connected to a JBL mini-ring speaker. As to what music I listen to, it's whatever the shuffle feature pumps out. Anthony Braxton is sure to wake me up quickly, tho not in a good way! Quote
papsrus Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 I listen while I sleep. I can run through a lot of stuff that way. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Depends on mood/what's on tv/kids/noise level, etc. But when I do have a morning to myself, I like to start off with solo piano/sonatas then progress to duos, trios and eventually get to full-blown ensembles. Its my way of easing into things in the morning. -_- Quote
JohnS Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 No, it's BBC Radio 4's Today programme for me. Essential listening to start the day. Quote
save0904 Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Only if I'm not having breakfast with my wife :-) Quote
sidewinder Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Breakfast is good Mosaic listening time ! Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Only if I'm not having breakfast with my wife :-) Ha! Good one Save. Funny enough, I was playing Jackie's Swing Swang Swingin' and my wife was diggin' it at 11am! So there is hope, but she still doesn't dig Hill, Rivers or Brotz; but its it progress. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 (three crumpets and a cup of tea) You mean 'English' muffins? Quote
BillF Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 The wife or three crumpets, eh? Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Believe me, after the three crumpets you need that cup of tea. Quote

Oh playing Brotz for breakfast would be definitively a reason for a divorce :-) Quote
Matthew Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 I usually listen to either The Message or Escape on XM Radio, both are kind of a positive way to start the day. Quote
BruceH Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 I listen to just about anything during breakfast, but I make sure to turn it down to a very low level. Quote
rockefeller center Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Sorry, can't tell you. Quote
spinlps Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Seeing that I usually have breakfast while sitting in morning gridlock, yes... via the iPod. Usually the "Recently Added" or "My Highest Rated" playlists. If I had a newer iPod touch I'd give the "Genius" playlists a try. Quote
BeBop Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Only if I'm not having breakfast with my wife :-) Good way to avoid a Breakfast Feud. Quote
