colinmce Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Steve Lacy's Monk album with Don Cherry became a perfect late-night jazz record on first listen. Yes, yes. Ornette's Atlantics are nice at the beginning of a late night, too. I Also second the person who said Merrill/Christy/Connor/et al, and of course Idle Moments. Johnny Smith's Moonlight In Vermont is perfect for those woozy evenings in. Birth of the Cool I've found Braxton's first two Aristas sound very nice around 2 AM when you're meandering. I also enjoy Louis late at night-- any of the Hot Fives & Sevens or Plays WC Handy. We should start an opposing thread: morning jazz. Personally, I find just about any Miles or Monk to be very invigorating at the beginning of the day. Same w/ Jeru. Quote
