JSngry Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I am getting very tired of seeing the plural form of compact discs as "CD's"!!! What, does the CD own something??? Yes. It owns US! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I think some problems arise when people parrot a particularly ironical use of language with quite getting it... NICE! Quote

Joe G Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 (edited) My wife's grandmother had some curious quirks in the way she spoke. My favorite was how she pronounced "gum". If she was talking about chewing gum, she'd pronounce it normally, like "gum". But if she was talking about her gums (which were often tender due to ill-fitting dentures) she'd say "my gooms". I don't know where she got that from. I noticed something about a word I that use: "probably." I've seen it spelled "prolly" on this board several times. When I use it in a sentence, especially if I'm speaking quickly, I tend to drop even the "L" sound out, resulting in something close to "pra-e-y", with a long 'a' sound. "Yeah, I could proay fit that in today." Weird, man... Edited November 25, 2003 by Joe G Quote
Jazzmoose Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I always thought people who confuse "literally" with "figuratively" were cute; probably think "literally" has something to do with fiction... Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 I think I might be getting paranoid but these things look like terrorists! Quote
RonF Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Out here in Colorady, where there are, easily, 5 million real estate agents - per square mile, many folks insist on saying REEL-A-TER, rather than REAL-TOR. Drives me insane. Another one that I hear out here is JOOL-ERY rather than JEWEL-RY. Goddam hicks! Look at the word! Quote
