Werf Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 The Stones swing, but the Beatles SING! Quote
neveronfriday Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 I believe the poll title is misspelled. It should be "shwing". Sorry, but can't vote until that has been fixed. Quote
JSngry Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 England swings like a pendulum do. Quote
fasstrack Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 It doesn't matter to me if they swing or not. I play a lot of their tunes and don't try to do anything but let them be themselves. The melodies are strong and have internal rhythms that work fine as is. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Can Anthony Braxton twist? Can he shout? Quote

Brad Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 This needs to be asked? Plus, I can't believe five people out of the 13 who voted said no? Quote
Jim R Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 The Stones swing, but the Beatles SING! Not sure how serious you are (and it doesn't really matter, as this is subjective, and I have no strong position on the matter), but coincidentally I happened to watch some of the Beatles Anthology documentary on Youtube last night, and was really struck by how UNswinging the Stones' performance was on "I wanna be your man", as compared to the Beatles. Nothing to base broad judgements upon, but I couldn't help noticing the stark difference with the clips played one after the other. Quote

Neal Pomea Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 No, but their bird can sing. Quote
JSngry Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Uh, yeah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNDNORVUKIw...feature=related Quote
Brad Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Based on the photos, that's probably from the BBC disc, which I've got on order. Quote
JSngry Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 It is, and somewhere here there's a thread I started about that cut, comparing Ringo's work there to Almost Billy Higgins In It's Own Way. So at the very least, Ringo swung. Maybe Ringo was the Count Basie of Rock Drumming. And to bring it back to the other currently running Beatles thread that's a well-seasoned club band you're hearing there, in the best possible way and kind. Quote

JSngry Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Yeah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKl4ufehjpA Once again, it's because of Ringo. Quote
JSngry Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Hell, once upon a time, rock and roll in general swung, more often than not. Quote
7/4 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Report Posted September 19, 2009 Hell, once upon a time, rock and roll in general swung, more often than not. Like John Bonham. I'd say he swung. Quote
Dave James Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 One listen to "Tell Me Why" or "Kansas City" should answer this question once and for all. Up over and out. Quote
BruceH Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Hell, once upon a time, rock and roll in general swung, more often than not. Oh, for the days when rock and roll swung...and get off my lawn you damn kids! Quote
JSngry Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Hell, house swings when it wants to. Hip-hop swings when it wants to. Punk quite often swung when it wanted to. The kids can stay in the yard, as long as they swing. Ringo channels Richie Goldberg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itLR8aW7vig And swings. Quote
BruceH Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Actually, all decent punk swings...or "rocks" to use the specific, technical term. Quote
