sidewinder Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 On a positive note it looks as if I've got a Pacific Jazz Trios Select on order so it's really only the Poppa Lou that I'm short of. Could be worse.. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 , I had the Patton on my wish list but didn't react quickly enough - I console myself that I have a fair bit of it on CD and LP. after posting this yesterday I dropped Mosaic an email bemoaning their loss and asking in vain if there was a Patton set kicking about. I wondered if in the chaos, underestimates of stock held might have occurred. Well amazingly I got a reply this evening , Cindy had a copy of the Patton select for me :excited: .... enough said, I am amazed to have been so lucky. No harm in asking. Cindy deserves a 'gong' for service beyond the call of duty. Congrats - it's a great set ! Quote

sidewinder Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 ****** JOHN PATTON ALERT ****** It's back on 'Last Chance', for anyone who needs one.. Quote
mikelz777 Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Yet another sign I have too many CDs. I was going to check out buying the John Patton Select and referred to my CD list to see if I had any of the individual discs contained in the set when I discovered I already owned it!! Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 ****** JOHN PATTON ALERT ****** It's back on 'Last Chance', for anyone who needs one.. Must be a number of them sitting there because I bought & paid for one 5 minutes before you posted (also got the Zeitlin). Quote
Swinging Swede Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Great, I just bought the Patton elsewhere. Quote
street singer Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Just received a shipping notice for the Weston, Pearson and Amy sets...whew!...and subsequently ordered the Patton. Will certainly be revising my Mosaic "buying strategy" (waiting for sets to hit Running Low/Last Chance) after this unfortunate set of circumstances... Quote
paul secor Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Looks like reissues are going down the tubes fast. Maybe it's time for people to buy some newly recorded music Quote
colinmce Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Grabbed the Brookmeyer from Reckless Records online for 36.99. Hopefully no one grabbed/grabs it from the store before my order processed. There is still a Carmell Jones sitting there for 39.99. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Received a shipping notice tonite from CD Connection on a Dexter set. Looks like they still have Patton. Quote
Patrick Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Got my Mosaic order (lacking a backordered set) a day or two prior to the mayhem. Had been keeping my eye on a cheap used copy of the Dexter Gordon Select on eBay. Read this thread, then checked ebay. That used copy was gone, but I immediately purchased a new one from another ebay seller (alibris music) for $47.57 delivered. Usually I shop around a bit, but pulled the trigger quickly on this one. Nothing else looked essential that I did not already own. May regret that later, but hey, there is so much good music out there (...and not so much time to enjoy it). Quote
BFrank Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Interesting about the John Patton Select. Gone......and then back to life (if however briefly). This set is a MUST-HAVE (IMHO) for anyone with any interest in Big John. Get it while you can. Quote
gmonahan Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Even though they probably have a zillion of them in stock, I ordered the Zeitlin, and it shipped today. I'd been putting that one off, but.... Hope I like it! greg mo Quote

sidewinder Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 (edited) I'm sure the Zeitlin will be good. I have 'Zeitgeist', 'Cathexis' and that 'Live at the Trident' LP on vinyl. Some good news to start the day. I have just secured a brand new copy of the Lou Donaldson. A bit of a hike from the Mosaic price unfortunately (thank you £ vs Euro ) and shipping from Italy. However, the emergency recovery action nears completion. I'm happier. Now all I need to happen is for some more Lou Donaldson sets to appear on Mosaic's site. I also managed to find a Freddie Slack in Australia at a decent price. Fingers crossed. Quote
tranemonk Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 okay now that the roof really DID cave in... I copped and got the last two Selects I was holding out on... the Hill Solo and the Woody Herman... Quote
sidewinder Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Nice one Bob. Yeah, thanks. I certainly cut it fine this time. I also managed to find a Freddie Slack in Australia at a decent price. Fingers crossed. From a jolly swagman, sat under the shade of a coolibar tree perchance? Quote

sidewinder Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 They should be calming down a bit by now as they are winning the 1 day series by a mile ! Quote

Congrats.....we'll probably enjoy these "last gasp" Selects and big boxes all the more for the hassle that was involved in securing them. More concerning surely must be how Mosaic recovers from losing 12 Selects and 2 boxes prematurely. I hope this doesn't nix the Ellington box. I feel lucky to have secured the Shank/Cooper and the Patton sets. The others I either had ( Pepper, Brookmeyer, Pacific piano trio) , had in part (Gordon, Richards, Pullen, Amy, Green, Donaldson) or had no interest ( Slack, Pearson, Washington) Quote
Tom 1960 Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 It appears I was lucky enough to scoop up the Pacific Jazz Piano Trios last night via Ebay and Movie Mars. Crossing fingers. Quote

Son-of-a-Weizen Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I learned that fans wait till the last minute to buy a Mosaic. Should be quite the stampede when the Mobley finally hits 'last chance'. Quote
