chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 the lp store wanted 79.99 for a stereo copy-- --never heard of this one,-- i was aware of "teddys ready" w/ the same lineup...but how is this ATLANTIC lp? Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Its OK, not worth $80, and I am pretty sure there is a Collectables CD out there - maybe paired with a different session? Quote
Larry Kart Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Its OK, not worth $80, and I am pretty sure there is a Collectables CD out there - maybe paired with a different session? Yes, it's paired on Collectables with the Allen Ganley-Ronnie Ross Atlantic, a good date. "Groove, Funk, Soul" IIRC is a bit better than "Teddy's Ready" -- not that there's anything wrong with "TR," but "GFS" was just a darn good day in the studio. Quote

Unfortunately the Joe Castro date on this CD only contains six of the eight tracks from the album, something that Collectables has done on a number of their '2 on 1' releases. Since he made two albums for Atlantic - 'Groove, Funk, Soul' & 'Mood Jazz' it would seem more logical to have paired these on the CD. Still, what's ever logical about CD reissues? However it's an excellent session and well worth getting. BTW Joe Castro provides great accompanyment for Zoot Sims on another release - 'Live at Falcon Lair', that came out on Pablo a few years ago.
