Free For All Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 This thread is usually Aggie's baby, but it seemed like it was time to start....... So, #20 BYU upsets #3 Oklahoma! Wow! Many close games on this first weekend- close calls for Ohio State and Iowa. Looks already to be a wild year. I watched the Oregon/Boise St. game Thursday night and saw Blount punch that player. Taunted or not, it was a stupid thing to do and may end up costing him an NFL career. Quote
papsrus Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Liked Bama a lot. They look tough, yes? Ohio State struggling a bit vs. Navy is not a good sign for next week (USC). Cal is looking solid against Maryland tonight. Oklahoma is in deep doo-doo without Bradford. Florida had its predictable opening-day practice. Ditto, USC (I guess. Only saw the score). Nice win by Oklahoma State over Georgia. Gonna go home and try and find the LSU-Washington game on the tube or the internets. Quote
Noj Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Trojans' freshman QB looks solid, from whatever one can take from that matchup with San Jose State. Fairly impressive number of points to put up in three quarters, mostly on the ground. USC will be tough to beat, I'm sure. Bruins survived a scare from the SDSU Aztecs who took an early 14-0 lead. UCLA's own freshman QB Prince looks pretty darned good too (again from as much as can be gathered from such a weak match up). I expect the Bruins to be about the same as last year, but a QB with some touch will help. We'll see how well the Bruins compete in Tennessee next week. Nice to see Marshall Faulk in attendance. Taunted or not, it was a stupid thing to do and may end up costing him an NFL career. ESPN had him rated as the #2 RB for the next draft(Of course a million things could happen between now and then), so that punch may have coat him a mil or two. What a stupid thing to do! That said, I was figuring a game or two suspension, not a whole season. Quote
Quincy Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 I'm amused that in a league with murderers, rapists, and other hellions that one punch makes a guy undraftable. I'll believe it when I see it. Quote

I'll believe it when I see it. There's no question he'll be drafted but his spot in the draft will suffer for not having a big final season - or any season. He'll help himself when he works out at the draft combine but with unguaranteed contracts in the NFL, signing bonuses are the big thing, and second or third round picks get less than players taken in the first round. I think one guy was suspended indefinitely (don't recall if he was reinstated) but everyone else got a single game. And it was way worse, IMO -- kicking, body slams, fists of fury, an all out brawl. Exactly! I guess it's just semantics, but I bet there are some scouts who wish most highly rated prospects slugged another player just to save themselves millions. I understand the concerns regarding such behavior, but the way it sounds it print is so damn ludicrous. The NFL is such a violent organization to get all high & mighty about this, pathetic as Blount was cracks me up. Let's see, not that long ago a Duck back gone pro got in trouble with a Whizzinator. UZero is on a roll! Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Thanks for starting this, Free! That BYU upset was a shocker for sure. I don't know how well Oklahoma will do over the next couple of games without Sam Bradford - if they don't lose anymore, and he returns at full strength, they've got a chance to get back into the national title picture, assuming the other contenders falter at some point. The Austin paper was growsing that this hurts Texas' national championship hopes, mainly on strength of schedule, if Oklahoma doesn't bounce back strong. My Aggies won handily against New Mexico, which was nice for me to see, given that they lost their season open to Arkansas State (ARKANSAS FRIGGIN' STATE!!) last year. They've got a tough conference schedule, and are playing a ton of freshmen and younger players, so a bowl game this year is very iffy, but I think they're headed in the right direction finally, after years of Dennis "Pay me and I'll tell you team secrets" Franchione. Aggie87 Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Great Miami/Florida State game tonight! Almost a great TD on the very last play by FSU to win it, but no dice. Quote
Free For All Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 Great Miami/Florida State game tonight! Almost a great TD on the very last play by FSU to win it, but no dice. Gonna be a long year I'm afraid. They needed this one to get started- they go to BYU in a couple weeks, and that may not be pretty. I think they're still a year away from becoming a contender. Bowden's had a great run, but I think it's time to step aside and let Fisher take the reigns. Quote
Noj Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Fun game, six lead changes. A whole lot of wasted time and botched plays there in that goal line series by FSU. Quote

I have NO idea why they made all those substitutions and ran all that time off the clock- very poor clock management. Quote

papsrus Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Bah! Was pulling for Ohio State tonight. Poor old Big Ten has been taking it on the chin lately. Thought they had it until SC marched down the field at the end there. Okla. State? wtf? Michigan-Notre Dame -- eh Quote
Free For All Posted September 14, 2009 Author Report Posted September 14, 2009 FSU goes to BYU next week. I'm afraid we might see some kind of a 60-3 score. I hope I'm wrong...... Quote
Noj Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 Taking a sack in the end zone was not only a rookie mistake, but it will cost Prince a few starts for the UCLA Bruins. He's having surgery today to repair his broken jaw and will be out 2-4 weeks. The Bruins will have to start another freshman QB against Kansas State. Quote
Bright Moments Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 canes sure looked great last night!!! Quote
papsrus Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 canes sure looked great last night!!! They did. Hard to tell this early, but that QB looks great. Young team. With the early sked they play, if they keep winning they'll be top ten in short order. Quote
WorldB3 Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 WOW! Washington who went 0-12 last year beat USC. Great game. Quote
thelbc Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 canes sure looked great last night!!! A corner/safety from The LBC made a few good plays for the Canes... FL talent is down...So Cal may be the answer, especially if they can land a QB from the Beach. Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Big upset by the Huskies over USC, 16-13. Going to be interesting to see who's left undefeated by the end of the season. And Florida State is manhandling BYU, which is interesting, given BYU's prior upset of Oklahoma. Edited September 20, 2009 by Aggie87 Quote
