Nate Dorward
Great list. Pity it's missing David Liebman--that's one I always stumble over. Is it Leeb or Libe?

slide_advantage_redoux
Answer may also be found HERE. What a great site. The volunteer DJs that spin sounds at KNTU (University of North Texas Jazz) need this BAD! They regularly butcher musician's names. It has gotten the point where listener's keep lists. Here are examples (with their interpretation in quotes) Dizzy Gillespie - "Gillepsie" Paul Gonzalves - "Gone-salves" Ed Soph - "Sahf" Steve Houghton - "Huffton" and the list goes on and on.... Thanks for the link
king ubu
Paul Motian is Armenian, and it should be mo-tee-un, but he's gone with 'motion.' Thanks for that, I stumbled over it in the list and became insecure as to whether it really was Mo-di-en or whatever exactly. ubu

JSngry
I don't think they're volunteers, I think they're students in the Radio-Tv program. Broadcasting majors or some such, My favorite recent gaffe, whic has been recurring, is "Arturo Sand-Oval", Not "Sand-o-VAL", just "Sand-Oval". maren
Good site, but Bluiett, Hamiet ham-ee-it blew-it Saxophonist, arranger, producer. Alternative: ham-it [Authority for latter: Personal conversation with the artist by Richard Paske, dpmusic, St. Paul, MN] I know several friends (and occasional sidemen) of Bluiett's who ALL say HAM - it so I don't know why it's listed as "alternative" by WWUH. Also, I thought Phineas Newborn was pronounced "Fine-ness" -- at least, I'm always getting corrected when I say "Finny-us"!!!
randyhersom
When I was at WRTI in the 70's Russ Musto told me that Phineas Newborn had given up on getting people to pronounce it Fine-us and was accepting Finny-us, so I'm not surprised.
