Van Basten II
Venus is struggling, just lost the first set. New thing, this year the early rounds are broadcasted by ESPN instead of USA. Edited September 1, 2009 by Van Basten II

Van Basten II
Came back strong on her serve to get to a third set. Don't count on me to post about the following game starring A-Rod. It will be way too late.
Van Basten II
Poor Dushevina , her only chance to win was to to grab the second set, she's getting beaten from pillow to post in the third. The boys might start before 11 pm.

Don't have the stats handy but Venus' unforced errors must be through the roof in that first set, while Dushevina's first service percentage was just as bad. Van Basten II
Seems as soon as i write something, something else happens. It's a game that nobody wants to win, Venus was leading 4-0 broke twice her opponent geez, now 4-3 only. Van Basten II
Finally gone through, exciting in an ugly kind of way. Don't put too much money on Venus if you go to the bookie.
AndrewHill
Very scrappy at best. Hope the next match's better.

AndrewHill
Looks like Roddick's having a bit of a hiccup in the second set.
AndrewHill
Safina's match was just as scrappy as Venus' was yesterday. Not an impressive start for the world's numbers one and three.
Van Basten II
We might have a game between Murray and Gulbis, felt that Murray played a bit too safe on the last serve game he got broke.
Van Basten II
Tough way to lose a set, but then again that is why Murray is a top seeded player and Gulbis is not.

AndrewHill
Tough way to lose a set, but then again that is why Murray is a top seeded player and Gulbis is not. Yeah, ultimately Murray was able to get back on track and defeat Gulbis in straights. Ivanovic was dropped out of the tournament , how the mighty has fallen ! Didn't see a story on this. What happened?
rockefeller center
Taylor Dent vs Feliciano Lopez was a pretty good match. Great comeback by Dent. http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/interview...1859746625.html

What happened? Gulbis was ranked number 4 last august, how did he do that, informatic piracy ? Trying to dig out results that make him go up to that ranking. Regarding the match , it was a typical game between a great and a good player. Good player gives all he can handle at the beginning but fails to capitalize and then his game becomes more erratic, great player has an easier time. Bad choice of words, was eliminated in three sets in the first round, saw the third set tie-breaker, she so does not look like a former number 1 player right now Edited September 2, 2009 by Van Basten II

Ok now i see , i misread the date for the rankings http://www.usopen.org/en_US/players/overview/atpg858.html Under the line high rank date for singles, i thought they meant the rank 4 for august 2008, when they meant he obtained his best ranking august the 4th. Doh ! Edited September 2, 2009 by Van Basten II
