Lazaro Vega Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Great on-line audience last night, thank you. The Bird show is going to be intense -- from '42 to '45 will take up the first hour and a half (at least) of the program. Tonight after 10 edt. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 an awesomeshow . its already on my ipod, and will be for quite some time. if i owned only early lester, early bean in europe, and 30's billie, i would never thirst for music. Quote

alocispepraluger102 Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) Amen to that bro aloc. Saturday morning around 9 a.m. hour we're going to broadcast an Iverson inspired hour of variations on "Lady Be Good." i relistened to the entire midnight-3am bloc on my walk/run today, editting out the very few promos, of course. that was pure heaven. thanks for the jessica, too. she has softened her touch a great deal. alocispepraluger102 Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 kcr now and for next several hours playing basie broadcasts from the mid 40s with billie and jimmy. there were no commercial billie-basie recordings that i know of. Quote
mmilovan Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) In fact WKCR now plays very rare 1930s Basie broadcasts in very good shape (I have few of tracks from these in very poor sound on some French CD). AMAZING! The same occurred yesterday when they played bunch of broadcasts I never heard before in any source: V discs, 1940s transcriptions and live programs and 1930s live recordings. It was heaven, and I'm sure I've heard some ingenious early Lester, even better than on official sessions. Unfortunately, heard no emphasis given to these (there were no additional comments from Phil) but material is simply marvelous... God knows how many good Basie broadcasts left unissued to this day. Pure treasure!!! Edited August 29, 2009 by mmilovan Quote

BillF Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Now listening: sounds like the stricken Bird on "Bebop" with Howard McGhee in fine form. Quote
