I've been listening to this CD off and on now. Not to belittle Threadgill's own playing, which is great, but it seems to me that some of the best moments of this recording are when the 4 other musicians are playing without Threadgill. They simmer and fidget and pop in ways that one does not often encounter. Great stuff. LIberty Ellman should record more.
