I did sort of wonder what happened when John Hammond and Leonard Feather were in close proximity. Could they not be contained within a single room? Or did a mutuality of self-admiration create a bond of friendship? There was a lengthy period during which they did not communicate. That followed Leonard's Metronome article on John, which appeared during WWII and was entitled, "HEIL HAMMOND." They eventually made up, but I don't think their friendship ever was a warm one.
