kh1958 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 The blog looks very interesting, but the white print on a black background format is difficult to read for very long. Quote
Larry Kart Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 NO MORE POLITICAL STUFF HERE, GUYS, OR THIS WHOLE THREAD GETS ----CANNED INTO THE POLITICAL FORUM, WHICH WOULD BE UNFAIR TO ITS MAIN POINTS, OR THOSE POSTS GET DELETED. JUST STOP. Quote
gmonahan Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 The blog looks very interesting, but the white print on a black background format is difficult to read for very long. That was my frustration with it--I even mentioned it in a comment. Love the photos and the stories about Lil Hardin Armstrong and others, and plan to read more, but for these increasingly aged eyes, the small print is sometimes very tough to read. I have to put on my reading glasses and get up close to the screen! As for the political stuff, I've never even clicked on that category. I can get politics in a zillion places. I come here to talk about, and more importantly learn about, the music. greg mo Quote

Check it out, take the tutorial if need be to get the hang of it. In the case of Chris's blog you can get black "ink" on a white background with the pictures. It's the sort of program like tabbed browsing that can change your online life for the better! The other great thing about programs like this is that rather than having to visit a blog and see that "no, there aren't any new posts" you'll save time by having the new content delivered to you. Larry Kart Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 OK, I've probably unfairly deleted several recent posts from this thread that were about politics. But that's how it's going to go. Take it ELSEWHERE. I've got better things to do than moderate a sandbox -- or is it a litterbox? Quote

Christiern Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 (edited) Thanks for all the encouraging words and constructive criticism. I have changed the blog's look to accommodate people who share my aging eyesight. Edited August 25, 2009 by Christiern Quote

Take it ELSEWHERE. I've got better things to do than moderate a sandbox -- or is it a litterbox? since my posting of berigan's avatar was deleted (and the rest of it was thoroughly unpolitical) i assume that means berigan isn't allowed to post outside the political forum anymore, at least with that avatar? I have changed the blog's look to accommodate people who share my aging eyesight. thank you for everything! (btw, i've tried with two browsers, since the change of colors the right-most 25% of each photo aren't visible anymore (even scrolling is impossible...)) Quote

Christiern Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Niko, I think you can drag it wider (from the lower right-hand corner) Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Thanks for the link, EKE BBB. It's a very fine blog. Did anybody else notice the following "P.S." that Chris posted earlier today? "Check out Organissimo and go to the Forum - it's still the best jazz-oriented bulletin board around. The group, Organissimo, is also well worth your ears. on Tuesday, August 25, 2009" Quote

AllenLowe Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 (edited) the great thing about posts being deleted is that it gives the thread a surreal aura - I find it's like reading Macbeth with every third page ripped out. In this version Lady Macbeth goes into rehab. Edited August 25, 2009 by AllenLowe Quote

jostber Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 This blog is great! Thanks Chris for this, and all your contribution to supporting great musicians and music through the years. Quote
sheldonm Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Right. I discovered Chris' new blog a couple of weeks ago and what a treat it is. I sure miss his presence on this site. The right wing rednecks who seem intent on taking over Organissimo have become a huge pain in the ass. And who might these nefarious rednecks be? I can think of one person who might fit that description, but that's about it. So one person has taken over the entire board? That one person is confined mainly to the political forum, so if it bothers you that much, don't go in there. And if you have no self-control, then I can make it so you cannot see the political forum at all. ...dude, I'm right here...wait until I log off! Quote
Big Al Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Slightly off-topic, but I just realized I have a Sonny Stitt LP at home with the same title as Chris' blog. Pretty sure Stitt won't mind, though... Quote
Harold_Z Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) Stomp Off, Let's Go is the title of a tune Louis Armstrong recorded in 1926 with Erskine Tate's Vendome Orchestra. Pretty sure Chris is making reference to that. I'd like to hear Sonny Stitt's record tho. Edited August 28, 2009 by Harold_Z Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Glad I looked at this thread. Chris' blog now in my favourites list. Sorry to see him go, though. MG Quote
AllenLowe Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) I'm bumping this, as I've been catching up with some older posts on Chris' blog today - I find this blog to be one of the most signficant contributions today, anywhere, in jazz and cultural history. Best thing on the net on the subject, and I do not exaggerate. I hope it ends up in book form, somewhere. Amazing stuff, Chris, if you're reading, and sorry it has taken me so long to say something in public (the first three months of this year have just evaporated for me in a haze of editing and band rehearsale) - Edited March 15, 2010 by AllenLowe Quote
kh1958 Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 I'm really enjoying the John Hammond series. Quote
kh1958 Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 I laughed, I cried, I shook my head in bemused incredulity... I did sort of wonder what happened when John Hammond and Leonard Feather were in close proximity. Could they not be contained within a single room? Or did a mutuality of self-admiration create a bond of friendship? Quote
