papsrus Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Me too. I somehow am bothered by "Prez" because all my earliest encounters have been "Pres." fwiw, Wiki goes with Prez, not that they're the last word. Probably written by some young whippersnapper. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Ah wiki. . . sort of like getting information at a Polynesian lounge right after happy hour. Quote
BruceH Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Happy Lester Young Centennial everybody! (And it's "Pres.") Got to dig out my Columbia "Lester Young Story" double albums (turns out I've got all five volumes after all.) Give the old turntable a workout. Quote
mmilovan Posted August 27, 2009 Author Report Posted August 27, 2009 Hapy birthday to true giant! Quote

ghost of miles Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 I've seen it "Prez" as much as I've seen it "Pres"--in fact, just this morning at my friend's record shop I came across a couple of Lester records that used the "Prez" version in the title. Seems like it basically boils down to user preference, rather than there being one canonical spelling. Quote
televiper Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Over at Bop and Beyond, I've posted several tribute articles, links, and videos to Pres, as well tonight I will be uploading a new broadcast dedicated to him with music tracing from Lady Day in the 30's to the Jazz Giant session in the 50's. Should be up around 9pm. Quote
BruceH Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I've seen it "Prez" as much as I've seen it "Pres"--in fact, just this morning at my friend's record shop I came across a couple of Lester records that used the "Prez" version in the title. Seems like it basically boils down to user preference, rather than there being one canonical spelling. My preference is "Pres"---plus that's the correct spelling. Quote
