mjzee Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 I've always been curious about these albums. I also never understood why they weren't re-released on Blue Note; I've only seen the Fresh Sound releases. How's the music? Monday Nights at Birdland Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 The music is as fine as you would expect. Billy Root didn't recorded much so he is a bonus. For some reason I want to say that one of these volumes has a Hank Mobley tune that he recorded for BN, so hearing it live is another plus. I've never known anyone who thinks this isn't well worth hearing. Quote

CJ Shearn Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 what's the sound quality on this? Quote
Denis Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Now we can download all of Hank Mobley's Septet at Birdland April 21 1958. Even though it's titled "Another Monday Night At Birdland". All on ITunes. Great to hear both sets with Symphony Sid. Denis Quote
brownie Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 (edited) Several years ago, I wrote to Mosaic to suggest a reissue of the two Roulette albums with any additional material available. The answer was noncommittal. Glad that Fresh Sound did reissue the two LPs. The first LP was title 'Monday Night at Birdland', the second one was titled 'Another Monday Night at Birdland'. Stereojack Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Several years ago, I wrote to Mosaic to suggest a reissue of the two United Artists albums with any additional material available. The answer was noncommittal. Glad that Fresh Sound did reissue the two LPs. The first LP was title 'Monday Night at Birdland', the second one was titled 'Another Monday Night at Birdland'. The original LP's were on Roulette, not United Artists. It is unusual that Mosaic or Blue Note didn't issue these, but I guess Fresh Sounds beat them to the punch a long time ago. Quote

Brad Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Another thumbs up on these two discs. Quote
Dave James Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 While I wouldn't characterize these two discs as being Yet Another Workout or Soul Station II, they are very serviceable and I'm glad I have them. Quote

A few months ago I bought "Monday Night At Birdland" which has the following tracks : "Walkin', All The Things You Are, Bag's Groove and There Will Never Be Another You". The album cover art shows Hank sitting and holding his saxophone and adjusting his mouthpiece. The release date is Jan 01 2009. Hallmark 2009. Now six more albums have been added. The album cover art is all the same. Background blue cover, with writings in red. All from 2009 Makin Friends Records. There is "Monday Night At Birdland" identical to the one I bought above. And there is "Another Monday Night At Birdland" with the following tracks : "It's You Or No One, Jamph, Nutville, and Wee". Denis Quote

They do have 3 additional boots (using the same photo that appears on Hank's "Third Season" BN release) that contain much of his '50's BN work; label name is "Hallmark." For when you care to send the very best, I guess. Quote
