Werf Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I voted other because I'm hear to learn about jazz, talk about music in general, support Organissimo, and look at boobies on old record jackets. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I've learned a HELL of a lot since being on here. Never thought I'd be mining Chewy for WCJ recommendations or TTK for heavy exotica titles... You know what they say: you can learn a lot from a dummy. [j/k] Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 In answer to the poll, all of the above. Quote
BeBop Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 When I first came here, I had far too much money. Thanks, y'all. Quote
Quincy Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Because jazz & popular music are dead and this is where the zombies are. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Other: Because I've been here for years, it's been the only constant over the past few years, and I can't let go. I'll work on it if necessary. Quote

blajay Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I chose the first four. I have no desire to discuss politics here. Quote
Bright Moments Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 i am surprised that more lurkers haven't voted. Quote
papsrus Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 I voted for "exchange ideas about music," but not sure that captures it. I find the non-music stuff just as ... interesting. Baseball, politics, buying-selling, polls on why I come here, that sort of thing. So maybe "exchange ideas about a relatively broad range of subjects -- some serious, some silly -- with people who have a similar taste in music as I do," might be more apt. Quote
kenny weir Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 I voted other, too. Not so much of a participant these days, but I do read just about everything - music and the rest. I couldn't vote for one of the music-based answers, as much of my interest lies in the more heavily current affairs and general topics, mostly because they ARE generated and maintained by music folks. sidewinder Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 I'm here for the 'Name Three People' thread. Quote
BillF Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 I'm here for the 'Name Three People' thread. Me,too! "Two Brains" Willetts (Name) Three People Four Brothers Quote
Harold_Z Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 More than one choice would have been better for me - but first off - I love music. I've been a professional musician since the mid 60s and played ALL kinds of gigs and all kinds of music - good and bad. Usually, and for better or worse, the bandleaders peg me as a jazzer and/or R&B player. When I first started posting I decided to keep out of the political stuff but disgust with the way things have been going since the 2000 elections revived an old interest so I now post on those threads too. Tom 1960 Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Simply put, to learn more about jazz music. The depth of knowledge here is staggering. Glad to be a participant here even though I don't know diddley compared to some of you guys. Quote
Aggie87 Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 i am surprised that more lurkers haven't voted. Lurkers by definition don't participate. Quote
.:.impossible Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 I voted other as a sort of all of the above answer, plus this is where all of my folks came after the BNBB demise. Honestly, one of the only reasons I open a web browser these days! I need to get around more! I hear that the web is world wide. Quote
Walt Richmond Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 Jim Alfredson was kind enough to add me as a friend on Facebook, and he mentioned this site in his profile. As I'm working on some jazz tunes with with a few friends right now, I thought this might be a nice place to see what other musicians are doing! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 (edited) To find out about music I might like from other ordinary listening enthusiasts - gives a very different perspective to what you read in the papers/magazines from professional critics/writers. Hopefully to communicate a little enthusiasm for things I like to one or two others. And because I've alighted on recordings here that I'd never have heard of through normal channels - Allen Lowe's four boxes, Seeline's wonderful Brazilian recommendations and Alexander Hawkins' recent CD come immediately to mind. I find the place constantly shakes me out of my musical comfort zones. Edited September 10, 2009 by Bev Stapleton Quote
Noj Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 I enjoy to read and exchange information with the community which taught me practically everything I know about jazz, and whose recommendations have lined my shelves with great music. Quote
jazzypaul Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 to be part of a community. The only problem is, as each day goes by, I am starting to realize that I don't really fit in anywhere anymore. Quote
