Rooster_Ties Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 (edited) Cripes. I waste 3/4's of the day trying to get my PC working - after it locks up everytime I start Word. (I did finally get it fixed, though lord only knows what was wrong in the first place. I installed, deinstalled, reinstalled, de-reinstalled, and re-reinstalled just about every Microsoft product on my machine -- before I finally got it working). And then I walk out to my car, five minutes before I'm suppose to be at a rehearsal that's a 10-minute drive away -- and my car is dead as a doornail. Some kind of electrical problem, probably related to the ignition switch I had to have replaced about a week ago. That time (last week), when I started the car - it would start just fine, but then everything would go dead (electrically) when I let go of the ignition key (letting it spring back into the regular position for driving). Now when I start it, there's nothing - nothing at all. I appear to have full power everything inside the car, and the headlights are bright. But I turn the key, and get absolutely nothing. Dead silence. No cranking of any sort... Well, except for me -- you certianly could call me cranky, after the day I've had. Dan, I know I owe you a PM with some info you're looking for, but I can't swear I'll get to it tonight, but I'll sure as hell try. If I'm without a car tomorrow, then I need to get some shit done tonight (with my wife's car), before she goes to work in it tomorrow. Crap... Edited November 20, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote

I meant to say 're-deinstalled', instead of 'de-reinstalled'. I'll try to do better next time, I swear. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 I hope things pick up for you, Tom! I'm in the same boat. Work is nuts, wife is nuts, I'm nuts.... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted November 20, 2003 Author Report Posted November 20, 2003 Thanks AB. By the way, I copped the title of this thread from this wonderful childrens book... Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted November 20, 2003 Author Report Posted November 20, 2003 Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words. Just taking a minute to chow down some dinner, waiting for the phone to ring any minute now. My wife and I play in a church hand-bell choir together. By now she's wondering where the hell I am, and will probably call on her cellphone the minute the rehearsal is over. (She's a bit of a worrier, though I'm sure I'd be worried about her too, if the roles were reversed.) Couple silver linings, maybe. First, I can get a free tow from my insurance company, so that's good. And I'm about 95% sure that the problem is realted to the problem with the car last week, and it could even be a defective ignition switch they replaced last week. Their parts are guarenteed for 90 days, so I could come out of this with lots of headache, but no actual out-of-pocket expense - knock on wood!!!! FYI, I'll probably be scarce from the board until Monday or so. My wife has relatives coming into town tomorrow night, and her cousin is staying with us. (So I probably won't have much on-line time between now and Monday.) ( But Dan, I will try to get to that thing tonight, or sometime tomorrow - if at all possible. Actually, if I'm without a car tomorrow, that might mean a better chance I can get to it then - if I can't go anywhere. ) Quote

AfricaBrass Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 I'm glad there's a little light in the tunnel for you. Have a good weekend. Peter, you're right, something's up.... Good luck to you too! Quote
chris olivarez Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Just put one foot in front of the other-carefully though . Hang in there Rooster everything will work out. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted November 20, 2003 Author Report Posted November 20, 2003 Just got the car towed (without any hassle), and if the part from last week is the problem - then no harm, no foul. Quote
Alexander Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" is one of my childhood favorites, for obvious reasons. Don't sweat it, dude. These things always seem to happen all at once. Within a week you'll be wondering what you were worried about, I swear. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted November 20, 2003 Author Report Posted November 20, 2003 Assuming I'm not out any $$$, I'm already over it. Just wanted to vent a bit, a few hours ago. I'm mostly "all better now". Quote
chris olivarez Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 That's understandable Rooster aand hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel won't be a damn train. Quote
Big Al Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 With any luck, once the mechanic pops the trunk, out will jump..... JAMES T. CAT!!! And everything will work just fine again! Quote
Free For All Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Well, Rooster, if it makes you feel any better I had a little scene last night. I couldn't find my keys, which often happens, but I always find them eventually. Well, I looked EVERYWHERE to no avail. I realized my ONLY car keys were gone (which they charge you to replace), all my school keys (which they charge you to replace) and others, and I started getting dark and pissed off about it. I looked through the trash (always a fun thing) among other places and ended up going to bed w/o success. Now yesterday there were some guys at my house relining my chimney, so as a last resort I called them to see if they by any chance had grabbed them off the counter (they had set some of their stuff there). The guy said "Oh, were those YOUR keys?" and I about started crying I was so relieved. He brought them by and it's all good now. Two lessons- First, it's funny how we become so dependent on our little possessions (and the KEYS that make them work). I was paralyzed w/o my keys. Second, lately I've resolved to not let the little things get me pissed. Not that I was having a rage problem, but I've grown weary of letting little crap get me down. No more. Life's too short, and there are a lot of better ways to spend time and energy. Yesterday was an extreme test, though, and I gave in to the dark side a little more than I would have liked. What you do with your life is only part of the big picture. It's also about the journey to get there. I have to keep reminding myself of that. This was a cheap way to get a good lesson. Quote
JSngry Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Bad days come, and bad days go. Eventually. For a second or two. If you get a chance to sleep, it's all good. At least until you wake up... Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted November 20, 2003 Author Report Posted November 20, 2003 Just called my mechanic, and the problem was just a blown fuse. Didn't ask him how much, but I'm sure it's like $2 or so. And the tow didn't cost me anything either - covered under my insurance. Cool beans!!!! Quote
