Larry Kart Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 or anything further about him? A fellow Chicago saxophonist of that time had asked me to inquire. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) Swing Lee O'Neill plays tenor on a Verro date by Billy Butler recorded in Chicago. Swing Lee is also the title of a tune on the Yusef Lareef/Von Freeman cd. He probably shows up as Swingley O'Neal in the John Young chapter of Dempsey Travis' An Autobiography of Black Jazz. Larry Kart Posted July 25, 2009 Author Report Posted July 25, 2009 Thanks. It was Charles Davis who wanted to know. Quote
Larry Kart Posted July 25, 2009 Author Report Posted July 25, 2009 Passed on the information to Davis, who also said thanks and added that he wanted to know because All About Jazz is doing a feature on him (i.e, Davis), in which he said that Swing Lee was one of his early influences. Davis knew him only by that name, though, and wanted to properly identify him if possible. Quote
