Question for the computer gurus

I moved my DVD-drive out of my computer and into my son's computer, which didn't originally have a DVD-drive. MediaPlayer and RealPlayer tell me I need some kind of decoder. I've downloaded so many codecs and decoders by now, and none of them have worked, but maybe I just haven't hit the right one yet. Any advice out there?

Never heard of using decoders to play DVDs, usually you can use the Windows media player if it does not take charge. Would say that the problem may be in the way you installed it

Try using the software that came with the drive to watch DVDs.

Best free movie player out there is the VideoLAN Player.

Windows Media Player doesn't play DVDs "out of the box".

I would recommend using a different player, such as the already mentioned VLC, or Media Player Classic (my personal favourite). Both are free.

There is no risk in installing these players. You'll be able to use all of them alternatively.

As is usually the case whenever I post something like this, later that day, Nathan came in and told me it was working just fine. I didn't even do anything to it! Oh well, if it craps out at some point, I can come back to this thread. Thanks, guys!
