blajay Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Does anyone have any biographical info on Harold Alexander the jazz saxophonist and flautist? Up because I just noticed how amazing he is on Big John Patton's Understanding (Disc 3 of Mosaic Select). Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 He's also on Patton's "Boogaloo", also from 1968 (but unreleased until about 1995) -- which is maybe my all-time favorite Patton date. And I never realized (until I just looked) he had not just one, but THREE leader dates. Here's everything that the AMG is aware that he's on, but no bio (though all three of his leader-dates do have reviews). Quote
Niko Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 most detailed account is in javier gonzalez thesis on patton, found on the patton myspace page http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseact...endId=188414859 (you have to scroll down quite a bit or just search for alexander...) this quote of alexander might explain some of his invisibility Alexander would record three records in the early 1970's, two for Flying Dutchman and one for Atlantic, then dropped out of the music scene. He remarked of the music business, "They didn't kill my spirit, but they killed my desire to share. Ain't that cold? But you keep growing. You keep practicing, you keep getting better...I'm just not gonna share it. Most people don't know what happened to me. I guess they think I'm gone." Quote
AndrewHill Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I think there's a thread somewhere on him, but you may have to search back pretty far to find it. Either that or there's a discussion on him that took place in the John Patton Corner thread. Quote
