Tina Marsh, has left us. Tina was an extraordinary, inspiring person. . . vocalist, composer, orchestra leader, a singular presence and a powerhouse in her home of Austin, TX, and well beyond. She had a way of going straight to the emotional core of whatever she sang, expressing music with the greatest courage and generosity. She was too young to leave us.

Honestly, I don't know if you knew Tina or her music. But here an article about her that went up only a couple hours after she died.

And here's a video that's just one example of her special kind of magic. If you didn't know Tina's work, well, it's ten minutes long, but I think if you watch it all the way through, you'll be glad you did.

She could also sings jazz standards a good example is "When or when" which can be heard on

I saw Tina Marsh perform with Carla Bley and Steve Swallow in Austin in 1990 - great show. She will be missed.

Very sad to hear of this. I had the opportunity to perform with the Creative Opportunity Orchestra when I lived in Austin- much fun. Tina was a good person and provided many great circumstances for like-minded musicians to assemble and perform.

Damn. RIP, Tina.

I knew she was having a tough time with her illness but hoped she'd be with us a bit longer. Jim is right - she got stuff done and Texas creative music is really going to feel the loss.

Terrible news to receive upon returning from holiday.
