wolff Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 What USA high school has best jazz band and best basketball player. Garfield High - Seattle, WA (home of Bill Gates). Tony Wroten Jr. is the hoopster(he should be at Hazen High, but that's another story). Have you guys heard these guys?? Quote
Big Wheel Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Questionable whether they are the "best" HS jazz band just because they won Essentially Ellington this year. EE rewards bands that rehearse the 6-10 Ellington competition charts to death, which doesn't seem to be the best measure of how good the band actually is. You can win with 2-3 strong soloists and a band that is only okay if you practice those charts enough. They were good, but probably not the best, in 2000, when I competed against them at the same competition (we placed ahead of them). I would guess that depending on the year (or even the day of the week) one of the performing arts high schools or Hall High School in Connecticut has a band that can smoke them. Quote

You sound like the band leader of the Roosevelt Roughriders(Seattle, WA) who took 2nd to Garfield. I need to use you for bait next time I go fishing.EE clips For those who aren't so literal, have a listen. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Garfield sucks! (Sorry; I went to Roosevelt...) Quote
