wolff Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 (edited) Curtis Beach(google now)..outta New Mexico, USA Frankly, could be the baddest track MFer since Mathias, who I believe won Oly Gold in decathlon at age 17. First off, he's a skinny kid..6 foot/165..no roids is what I'm saying. I'm at a loss for words to describe how good this guy is. Many veterans of T&F do not really know what to say either. He competes in 10 events. His personal records in these events are off the charts. 100M - 10.99 LJ - 23'7.25" SP - 44-08.00 HJ - 6-09.50 400- 47.96 110H - 14.38 DT - 133-04 PV - 15'6" JT - 155-09 1500/800 - 4:09.48 / 1:52.72 11th event: 200M - 20.94 There are only a few HS track teams is the whole USA who could beet him. I actually, I think it's two. He sweeps many, very many school records in each event. Most of the best High School teams in the States can only beat him in 2 or 3 events. This is not some small school freak going against schools of the deaf. He would have placed 3rd/4th in Texas 5A State. In Texas 5A here's how Beach would do: 100-10.89 Nothing 200-21.52 4th 4 pts 400-47.96 4th 4 pts 800-1:52.72 2nd 8 pts 1600- 4:29.4c Nothing 110 Hurdles- 14.24 Tie 4th 4 pts LJ- 23' 10 1/4 4th 4 pts HJ- 6' 9.5 6th 1 pt SP- 44' 11 Nothing DT- 133 04 Nothing PV - 15' 06 Tie 2nd 8 pts Total 33 pts good for 3rd place At the California State Meet, here's how Beach would've fared: 100: would not have made finals 200: 1st place -10 points 400: 6th place - 1 point 110H: 8th place- 0 points 800: 4th place - 4 points 1500: would not have made finals HJ: 3rd place - 6 points PV: 6th place - 1point LJ: 5th place - 2 points SP: would not have made finals/state DT: would not have made finals/state JT: not competed in CA Beach: 24 points 20 points won state. We are talking Texas 5A(biggest schools) and California(all schools combined) where about 200 kids are getting D1 scholorships for track/field. He's going to Duke.....one of the worst track schools in the history of NCAA T & F. There is a new decathlon coach there, who he likes. Wish he would have gone to Oregon. wolff Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 Probably felt uncomfortable with the idea of being a duck... Actually, I hate the Ducks(including Nike) for everything except for track. Oregon track is back in a big way. I think they won Men/Woman's NCAA's Outdoor. This a good thing for track. It's like Europe(or how I imagine Europe to be) down there. Besides the SEC it is USA college track. Their track is like Yankee stadium...Prefontaine, Oly trials, etc.. Quote
wolff Posted June 28, 2009 Author Report Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) Not HS but...USA Outdoor T&F Championshps conclude today. On NBC at 1 PM Pacific.Live steam all day.. Putting together our Jr/Sr teams that will go to Trinidad/Berlin in August for Worlds. Edited June 29, 2009 by wolff Quote

He's been a fixture on the local news sports reports (as you would imagine). Although I haven't really been following his story much, he seems like a pretty humble, bright kid. Quote
wolff Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) There are some articles he wrote on-line(can't find link) that are amazingly articulate / insightful.. Let's hope he does not end up like Bruce Jenner.... No, Bruce and the Kardashions are alright, but those Blue Devil lacrosse guys are another story... Edited June 29, 2009 by wolff Quote
wolff Posted July 4, 2009 Author Report Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) Interesting read Would love to see this guy put T&F back on the USA sports map. Edited July 4, 2009 by wolff Quote
