BruceH Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 The original is really good so I'm not sure I want to see the new one.I hear you. Remakes blow. And who could stand in for Walter Matthau's nose coming back in the door before the rest of him after the bad guy sneezes? Well....not ALL remakes. There's the John Huston/Humphrey Bogart version of The Maltese Falcon, which was actually the third attempt. Glad they did THAT one. And His Girl Friday, a remake of the original The Front Page (1931) and a genuine masterpiece. But I rather agree that there's little reason to think that the remake of Pelham will be on that exalted level. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 The only re-make I liked was "Cape Fear." It was true to the original in spirit, and the director had the good sense to use Bernard Herrmann's score (most of it, at least) for the remake. Has anyone mentioned the great Pelham score by David Shire? I'm sure he didn't score the re-make (though he did score "Zodiac" a few years back). Quote
BruceH Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 The original is really good so I'm not sure I want to see the new one. The original was great Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw - and NOTHING can touch David Shires original score!!!! .... atonal big band R&B :tup :tup The score is like the original film itself----utterly shameless, and yet carries off a rough-and-ready authenticity and finally a kind of genius. Has anyone mentioned the great Pelham score by David Shire? I'm sure he didn't score the re-make (though he did score "Zodiac" a few years back). Yep. See above. Quote

BruceH Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 With all due respect to everyone involved, I've got to admit that as soon as I heard about it, I looked forward to NOT seeing the Pelham remake. Quote
