Right now about 10 surges in the past 5 minutes and like 6 straight within a minute

Have a APS back up going with my computer

Only happening in the Computer Room nowhere else in the house

Has been going on for 4 or 5 days

I do not need any electrical fires at this time

Are you using a power strip? Did you daisy-chain multiple power strips together? If yes to either of the above two questions, how many devices do you have on each strip?

not at home at the moment

i have just 1 power strip and it must have 6 things plugged into it and it is plugged into the APS

no daisy chained power strips

someone caused a fire where i live with too many computer items plugged into an outlet

will double check when i get home

Power strips (like most anything) have a wattage rating, just make sure you're not exceeding the listed rating and you should be fine.

IIRC it could also be the wiring on the wall though. If your outlet can't handle 6 devices going through an outlet meant for 2, that could be the source of your problems.

My mom had the exact same symptoms you're describing with the power in the computer room wavering. It turned out she was daisy-chaining multiple power strips together, putting a computer, printer, monitor, UPS, and other stuff through the same outlet. Bad news.

Tried turning off the AC and that worked for 2 minutes

It was going crazy when AC was running so I thougt that might be the problem

My computer has been in the same room and set up for 9 plus years

This just started happening about 5 days ago

It was going crazy this morning with the computer turned off

Worked OK all last night and you could hear it going early this morning

It could be a problem with the building (old wiring, panels don't have enough juice. etc.). Seems to be the case since there was a fire once before. Distribute plugs over as many outlets as you can and check with your neighbors to see if anyone else is having a similar problem.

Sounds like it could be a building problem - or someone in the locality powering up a rogue piece of kit putting transients into the supply e.g. a big capacitive load intermittently kicking in.
