papsrus Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Sullivan ordered. Very much looking forward to it especially after all the positive reaction. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 24, 2014 Author Report Posted June 24, 2014 Ira Sullivan just ordered 60 pieces. Quote
Clunky Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Ira Sullivan just ordered 60 pieces. I've listened as carefully as I can to comparethe CD v LP of Ira's session. The sound of the CD is a clear winner. Cymbals are less splashy and one dimensional on the CD. Bass sounds from bass drum and the bass itself are much clearer , previously they sounded quite feint. The balance between the instruments sounds more natural or realistic. What was slightly disjointed on the LP sounds more coherent. Overall on the CD it is much easier to hear the music as intended. I'm loving the music all the more for these noticeable improvements. No wonder Mr Sullivan's pleased. Next up Generation. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 27, 2014 Author Report Posted June 27, 2014 One of my customers received a Sullivan without a disc. Please don't file it away without checking - I know you collectors. :-) Quote
AllenLowe Posted June 28, 2014 Report Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) I got two Sullivan discs in mine; one must be his.... just kidding of course, and I am amazed by this stuff. Sullivan remains to me the free-est bebopper ever. Wow; just a master player and one who could show Wynton and the gang a thing or two about how to keep this music real. Love Russell, as always. Another good example (at least to me) of how to use more open concepts in a way that keeps them from bogging down with free-jazz cliches. both of these sound like they could have been made last week. Chuck Nessa Posted August 19, 2014 Author Report Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) Lauren Deutsch - she said this conversation began 48 years ago. I should have credited her earlier - she posted this shot on Facebook and I copied it from there. She is a wonderful photographer and person. Edited August 19, 2014 by Chuck Nessa Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 20, 2014 Author Report Posted August 20, 2014 So today is the official release date of the Sullivan and Russell cds and Amazon says they are out of stock. I guess this means they sold their initial order and need more. Sadly, they only order once a week and it may be a while before they start shipping again. Quote
johnblitweiler Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 Looks like Ira, at least, will have CDs for sale when he comes to Chiago next week. Quote
Clunky Posted September 14, 2014 Report Posted September 14, 2014 Listening to all the recordings, I feel they got tighter as the tour progressed. The selected recording is from 2 gigs after I heard them in Buffalo. How's this one coming on? Is there a release date ? Quote
