7/4
I'm curious so I'll get it. Of course, I'll get it - Pat's on it. .
Joe G
Of course, I'll get it - Pat's on it. They sounded good on that tour.
7/4
I heard 'em on the Reunion tour in '89. I like this side of Pat. ...
Joe G
The other cool thing is that all those tunes are in the first Real Book. Great stuff.
mjzee
Peter Max cover, so it's really more like the '60's. Still pretty ugly. They're also touring.
Guest Bill Barton
CD arrived in the mail yesterday... One listen so far. Didn't exactly "jump out" of the speakers, if you know what I mean, but very pleasant. Hip setlist too... Mo' later...
mr jazz
I'm seeing them in a small club in Annapolis MD next month. I'll have to pick up the new cd, Reunion sounded pretty darn good the other night.
CJ Shearn
Just came home with it plus the three Legacy Editions that were released...... About to open the Burton. Funny how it's a Metheny Group Productions release but released on Concord. Pat is still with Nonesuch, so I guess it's released on Concord since Burton's still with them. GA Russell
I listened to this last night on Lala. I like it too. I think it's more of a Pat Metheny album than a Gary Burton album.
7/4
I think that's what surprised me. BTW, I love the cover art. Edited May 31, 2009 by 7/

CJ Shearn
I'm a biased Pathead, but I think this is some of his best sideman playing since Kenny Garrett's "Pursuance". Pat is very inspired by Gary, Steve and Antonio, and he is very creative. I like how his synth solo on "Q&A" presents a different look than the official and bootleg versions I have of the tune. I love the guitar sound on the record too.
7/4
I think I could do without the gtr synth. ...

mr jazz
took a couple of listens to absorb, but overall quite enjoyable. SQ just ok, IMO. Looking forward to the show on the 23rd. I will see if I can get the cd signed.
WorldB3
Good interview with Gary with a stream of the record for those interested.
GA Russell
I heard a track this morning on Sirius. I was a little surprised because they don't often play songs without hummable melodies.
robert h.
I like the record, but it lacks the fire of Burton's ECM period, and in truth, Metheny has become somewhat cliche'd in his playing, and Burton is not as inspired as he was in the ECM days, becoming more of a straight ahead player. That early ECM period was really more driven by the great Mick Goodrick than by Metheny, and Goodrick is a better player. Soundwise there is a letdown here with Burton being further down in the mix and lighter tonally and the bass a bit on the heavy side as seems fashionable these days. Nice one but the ECM titles with Goodrick and Metheny are the essentials.
CJ Shearn
I don't think it's fair to say Pat has become cliched in his playing. Yes he has a lot of licks, but he played some of the best I ever heard him play last summer in Woodstock with Jack DeJohnette and Larry Grenadier, they were playing standards like "I'll Remember April" and "Dolphin Dance". I also have a live show from the PMG's stint touring as a quartet in January in Tokyo, and Pat's playing is great there, especially on tunes they haven't played in more than 20 years.
